Trump Doubles Down on Week of Dumb Statements: Deems President Obama as “Founder of ISIS”

Okay. Can we just forget about Trump’s “Second Amendment people” gaffe and move forward, now? I’m sure Mike Pence and the rest of the cleanup crew could use a break from stupidity.

Wait. Oops.

Looks like the outrageous and ridiculous is flying faster from Trump than his apologists can run interference for it.

In the latest edition of “Dumb Things Our Candidate Says,” The Guardian is reporting on a Wednesday Trump rally in Sunrise, Florida:

“Isis is honoring President Obama,” Trump said of Islamic State. “He is the founder of Isis. He founded Isis. And, I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton.”

Trump’s declaration echoed an attack he made against Clinton last week, also in Florida, in which he said the former secretary of state “should get an award from them as the founder of Isis”.

An argument can be made that Obama’s feckless policies in the Middle East, an ill-advised withdrawal from operations in Iraq, which were aimed more at keeping campaign promises than securing and stabilizing the region, etc… leading to the growth and strengthening of ISIS.

On that, we could debate, discuss, and it’s all valid.

To say, however, that ISIS is “honoring” Obama and that he is the founder, while Clinton is the co-founder is juvenile and ridiculous.

The origins of Isis trace back to the aftermath of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. The group has been deemed an offshoot of al-Qaida, which carried out the attacks on 11 September 2001. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian militant terrorist viewed as the founder of Isis, was killed in a US airstrike in Baghdad in 2006.

Although Isis has expanded rapidly during Obama’s tenure, seizing in particular on the Syrian civil war, the administration has also made gains in its military campaign against the extremist group. US army Lieutenant General Sean MacFarland said on Wednesday an estimated 45,000 fighters linked to Isis had been killed in the two years since the US-led military coalition against the network was launched.

A more likely scenario is that ISIS sees President Obama as an apostate, at best, which puts him very much on the outside of their belief system.

Trump, on the other hand, has no clear plan, other than the red meat he routinely tosses out to his glassy-eyed loyalists.

He’d bomb them out of existence, including their families.

He’d use our military as his personal kill force.

And he’d stop all immigration of Muslim immigrants.

Is that broad enough for you?

None of those suggestions are viable and no president has the authority to enact those as policy. That is, however, the rhetoric you get when you nominate a reality TV star who likely failed any American Civics classes he ever took and has no idea about the three separate but equal branches of government, and their purpose.

Great job, America.
