(Before It's News)

Betty Shelby, the Tulsa, Oklahoma police officer who fired the single shot that killed Terence Crutcher on September 16 will be charged with first-degree manslaughter.

District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler filed the charges Thursday against officer Betty Shelby, who shot and killed 40-year-old Terence Crutcher on Sept. 16. Dashcam and aerial footage of the shooting and its aftermath showed Crutcher walking away from Shelby with his arms in the air.

The footage does not offer a clear view of when Shelby fired the single shot that killed Crutcher. Her attorney has said Crutcher was not following police commands and that Shelby opened fire when the man began to reach into his SUV window.

No gun was found on Crutcher, or in his vehicle at the time of the shooting.

The Crutcher case is one of several cases around the country in the past week, in which a black citizen was killed during a confrontation with law enforcement.

Charlotte, North Carolina is currently dealing with violence and rioting, set off when a plain clothed police officer shot a man they said was carrying a gun.

The man’s family said that he was carrying a book. Authorities are saying a gun was recovered at the scene.

That man’s family was allowed to view the police dash cam footage today.
