The king of locker-room talk, shock jock Howard Stern, is known for his history of raunchy on-air antics. There has probably never been a radio show host who has had more inappropriate sexual conversations, in fact, the $2.5 million he had to pay the FCC in “indecent material” fines was the highest amount of any radio show in the entire country.
And yet, not even Howard Stern can defend Donald Trump for his infamous hot mic comments. Billboard reported on Monday that during a recent interview, Stern dismissed the idea that Trump’s comments were purely “locker room talk,” and even criticized Trump for his comments.
Although Stern also maintained that he would not replay any of his old interviews with Trump because he felt it would be a “betrayal” to any of his radio show guests to exploit their previous on-air conversations, he added:
“But this idea of ‘locker room talk’… all the times I’ve been around guys – and believe me when I’m around guys 85 percent of the times you’re talking about p—y– but I have never been in the room when someone has said ’grab them by the p—y,” said Stern, repeating Trump’s boast from the bus. “No one’s ever advocated going that step where you get a little bit, ‘hey I’m going to invade someone’s space.’ … A lot of [locker room banter is] real kind of desperate talk. The reason it’s in a locker room is because no one’s proud of it.”
Well, Donald Trump seemed pretty proud of himself when he was explaining to Billy Bush that he likes to use his power and status to take advantage of women. But that probably has more to do with him being a narcissistic sociopath than anything else.
Howard Stern. The guy probably discusses women’s genitals as casually as he talks about the weather. And even he understands the difference between simply using dirty language in a locker room, and advocating for sexual assault. Even he understands it isn’t about the use of the word itself, but the context of the conversation. Even he sees the danger in excusing these comments, or blowing them off as “guy talk.” And even he knows better than to defend the indefensible.
When even Howard Stern can’t defend your vulgarity, you know you’ve hit rock bottom.
