It’s no secret at all that the Ukrainian border guards have been long keeping a blind eye on the episodes involving illegal crossing of the state border, trafficking of goods, weapons and drugs destined for the West. But the problem is much more serious than it might look at the first glance, for Ukraine and its neighbors have now to deal with the real threat of the possible terrorist attacks, ISIS including! Joking apart, it relates both those directly engaged in border guarding and their bosses in the country’s higher echelons of power. It’s an authentic fact that the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is in possession of information on ISIS fighters’ penetration into the country and their further, practically unhampered, entry into the EU countries via the Ukrainian territory.
The ISIS traffic through Ukraine appears to work smoothly, without any curbs at all. The attempts to estimate the measure of cupidity or treachery behind this situation make no sense probably, for both only demonstrate evil will and criminal intention threatening with far reaching consequences. It goes without saying: this can hardly be possible in absence of close interaction involving special services. Some well-coordinated corruption policy is clearly visible here.
Is Europe in the know actually? Sure, it is! But is Europe fully aware of the nature of this crime, and, what seems to be even more important, the scale of it?! French kisses with the EU officials, all those European deputies and commissars, austere suits and smiling faces in nice surroundings among the flowers and all those habitual things are meant just for cameras. In real life it’s bunch of total lies on part of Ukraine, tough pressure of the Ukrainian authorities on representatives of European and international organizations (intimidation and threats to their personal safety included), resulting in mutual suspicions and lack of trust. Could it stay differently actually? The Permanent Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea doesn’t bother to meddle, in violation of all the thinkable international standards, into the activities of the special OSCE mission in Ukraine in order to conceal the sensitive data obtained by the observers and able to harm Kiev’s agenda!
What are the ways and tools used with the aim? Those are again the same rotten through with corruption secret services employing all the means at their disposal to keep an eye on the Mission and its members so that to limit to maximum their contacts with the local state officials. It’s in the first place.
And in the second place there goes the corruption interests of the observers themselves. The staffer of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) Miriam Cias guided by corruption intentions made it possible for Natalya Popovich, head of the Permanent Mission of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, to get access to the SMM internal documentation. Acting on her request, Cias also concealed from the OSCE SMM leadership some facts on the situation in the regions adjacent to the border. And this amounts rather to betrayal of the national interests than just mere corruption!
Further on, OSCE SMM Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug takes no care at all about the validity of the data supplied by the Mission, for he views his OSCE activities as some interim step in realization of his personal plans. In the nearest perspective he is going to occupy one of the key positions in the top power structure of Switzerland.
It’s plain clear that before such an assignment one should present himself correctly and nicely so that to give no cause for any knocks. And so the Mission reports are being prepared up to Mr. Hug’s liking, his mercantile interests, which surely affects the quality of the work in general and mars the reputation of the organization used to be a respected and influential one.
“Everybody lies”, so Dr. Greg House would like to utter. This is right the case with Hug, Cias and Popovich, and many other dozens, hundreds, and thousands of new Ukrainian politicians, officials, heads of the ministries and agencies, rank and file of the law enforcement agencies and secret services as well. Sadly enough, the system…alas…is rotten through already, shortly after its birth and long before its full formation. Now it needs badly…. not even some repair works but a complete dismantling. By the way, the notoriously known leader of the Crimean Tatars loyal to Kiev L. Islyamov is voicing a blunt lie when he refers to a successful recruitment for the volunteer Tatar Battalion named after Noman Celebicihan. What is really true to reality is that, according to the data gathered and verified by the Kherson region prosecutor’s office, the Crimean Tatars, members of Asker social formation, are leaving it due to “lack of financial means and mistrust of the leaders to the ordinary fighters”.
