Bomb attack kills 21 including 12 Iranian pilgrims in Iraq

Iraqi forces advance through intense fighting in Mosul

Kurds and Shi’ite forces to coordinate in push to encircle Mosul

news.yahoo.com/kurds-shiite-fighters-coordinate-sealing-off-mosul-100100506.html

Kurdish and Shi’ite forces near Mosul have agreed to coordinate their operations in support of a U.S-backed offensive seeking to encircle and capture Islamic State’s last major urban stronghold in Iraq, U.S. and Iraqi officials said on Thursday. The agreement will restrict the movement of the jihadists in and out of Mosul and aid the attempts of the forces ranged against them to complete the encirclement of the city from the western side, according to the officials.

It came after Iraqi Kurdish and Shi’ite fighters linked up near the Islamic State-held town of Tal Afar, west of Mosul, on Wednesday in an advance that cut the militant group’s supply route from the rest of the territory it holds in western Iraq and Syria.

Islamic State retaliated with a massive truck bomb in Hilla, hundreds of kilometers from the front lines, which are in Iraq’s far north. The attack on Thursday killed about 100 people, most of them Iranian pilgrims returning from the Shi’ite holy city of Kerbala, according to police and medical sources.

The agreement between the Iraqi Kurds and Shi’ite groups was reached at meeting between commanders of Kurdish peshmerga forces deployed in Sinjar, west of Mosul, and Hadi al-Amiri, the leader of the Iranian-backed Badr Organisation. Badr is the biggest component of a coalition of Shi’ite forces known as Popular Mobilisation who are assisting the U.S. backed offensive seeking Mosul’s capture – regarded as a major step in dismantling Islamic State’s self-styled “caliphate”.

“The joining of these forces greatly reduces the freedom of movement of ISIL insurgents in and out of Mosul,” said Air Force Col. John Dorrian, a Baghdad-based spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition, referring to Islamic State. “They have already lost the effective ability to move in large numbers, but now this has been made more difficult for them.”

Mosul is already ringed to the north, south and east by Iraqi government forces and Kurdish peshmerga forces. Iraq’s U.S.-trained Counter Terrorism Service breached Islamic State defenses in east Mosul at the end of October and is battling to expand its foothold in the city. Iraqi Forces Liberate Two More Neighborhoods in Eastern Mosul

Iraqi Army forces freed two populated districts from ISIL militants in the left bank of Northern city of Mosul, a security source in Iraq’s Nineveh province said.

The security source told Sumeriya News that Iraqi Army forces liberated Zohour neighborhood and the Green Apartments in Eastern Mosul and cleared the two districts of ISIL terrorists.

Separately, a commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces in Sahal Nineveh (Nineveh plains) said the PMF forces are now in control of all liberated areas between Nimrud and al-Hamadanieh, Southeast of Mosul.

The PMF commander, Wa’ad al-Qudwan, added that the popular forces, in a joint operation with Iraqi Army’s 7th brigade, have also managed to recapture the linking road between Nimrud and two villages of Qarshur and Balavat towards the city of al-Hamadanieh.

Hundreds of Abducted Iraqi Children Transferred to Syria by ISIL

A little boy who was forcefully being trained by the ISIL in the so-called “lion cubs” camps disclosed that the terrorist group has transferred hundreds of Iraqi children to Syria before leaving the Eastern districts of Mosul.

The Iraqi boy who has managed to flee from the ISIL’s notorious camps said children are forcefully taken to the terrorist group’s camps and are even forced to kill their own family members there.

He added that the ISIL takes children to military camps and severely punishes their parents if faced with their opposition.

“The ISIL militants make children in lion cubs camps to undergo difficult trainings that even adults cannot bear, including smashing a piece of wood on their bellies and breaking bricks on their heads,” the child said on the condition of anonymity for the fear of his life.

3 Turkish forces killed in Daesh attack in al-Bab

At least three Turkish soldiers have been killed in an attack in Syria’s northern town of al-Bab. Ten others were rushed to hospitals in the Turkish border cities of Kilis and Gaziantep. There are conflicting reports about the nature of the attack or who carried it out. Although Turkish officials earlier blamed Daesh terrorists for the incident, the Turkish army now accuses the Syrian Air Force of killing its forces. It says the Syrians pounded positions held by the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army in the strategic border town of al-Bab overnight. Damascus has repeatedly slammed the presence of Turkish troops in northern Syria who were deployed for the stated goal of fighting Kurdish fighters and Daesh.

Turkish Army Launches Heavy Attacks on Syrian Army in Lattakia

The Turkish army launched heavy artillery fire on the Syrian army and its Desert Hawks forces in Northern and Northeastern Lattakia and pushed them back before they could strike a major victory and win control of Jeish al-Fatah’s most important stronghold in the province.

Witnessing a massive disorganized escape of tens of terrorists towards their country’s borders, the Turkish army forces deployed near the border with Lattakia province conducted a heavy shelling and rocket fire attack on the Syrian army positions in Navarah, Borj al-Hayat, Ain Issa and Heights 616.

The Syrian armed forces had made a major advance in Jabal al-Rae’i, Navarah and Borj al-Hayat but they were forced to retreat after facing the Turkish army’s fierce artillery attacks. Minutes later, the terrorists returned again to the regions which had earlier been liberated by the army, battlefield reports said on Thursday.

A large number of terrorist snipers were deployed in the region to prevent any possible renewed attack by the army.

Meantime, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) terrorists and the Turkish-affiliated forces as well as Ankara’s fighter jets and artillery units blocked the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) passage between Afrin and Kobani in Aleppo province and launched similar heavy attacks on their positions.

The Syrian army units, supported by the Desert Hawks, had started massive operations in the Northern and Northeastern parts of Lattakia province on Wednesday to liberate Hassan al-Rae’i mountains and destroy the terrorists’ operations room.

A field source said on Wednesday that the main goal of these operations is firstly, cleansing the terrorists from the region which is one of the most important bases of Jeish al-Fatah and then, paralyzing the militants and smashing their operation rooms in the region.

“After the Syrian army forces retake control of Jabal al-Rae’i mountains, they will also gain superiority over the terrorists in the nearby towns bordering Idlib. The Syrian artillery, missile and air force units are also due to target the terrorists’ positions in the Northern towns near the border with Idlib,” he added.

The Jeish al-Fatah terrorist group and the Takfiri Chechnian and Caucasian militants have occupied a number of towns and mountains, including Navarah, Zaitounah, Qelez, Salsour and Kabani, in Lattakia but 93% of the province’s territories have been purged of terrorists.

Syria in Past 24 Hours: Heavy Casualties, Damages Inflicted on Terrorists in Aleppo

The Syrian army and its allies continued to advance in different parts of Aleppo province, killing and wounding over 100 terrorists and destroying their positions, weapons and vehicles.

Aleppo

Tens of terrorists, including a notorious commander of Ahrar al-Sham, were killed in a tough battle in Sheikh Saeed district in Southern Aleppo.

Field Commander of Ahrar al-Sham Abu Hareth al-Halabi along with tens of militants from this and other terrorists groups affiliated to Jeish al-Fatah coalition were killed in Sheikh Saeed battlefield.

A field source disclosed that the Syrian army’s advance against militants has slowed down as hundreds of militants are now fighting against the government troops in Sheikh Saeed.

The army soldiers, the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iraqi al-Nujaba fighters have started a fresh phase of offensives in Sheikh Saeed and already managed to advanced to Sheikh Saeed bridge.

Also in the past 24 hours, terrorists of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) targeted areas near the Syrian government-established humanitarian corridors, blocking exit paths of civilians who sought to leave militant-held neighborhoods in the Eastern part of Aleppo city.

“The FSA militants deployed in Bostan al-Pasha district Northeast of Aleppo targeted the humanitarian corridors with mortar shells and gas cylinders and prevented at least 200 civilians from leaving the Eastern districts of Aleppo city,” Member of the Syrian Democratic Council Rizan Hadou said.

“200 civilians tried to leave the Eastern districts of Aleppo but faced heavy fire of the terrorists in a neighborhood between the districts of Sheikh Maqsoud and Bostan al-Pasha and were forced to return again to Bostan al-Pasha,” Hadou added.

Also, on Wednesday, Syrian Army soldiers continued their advances against the Jeish al-Fatah coalition of terrorist groups in the Eastern part of Aleppo city, capturing more lands in the region after hours of fierce clashes.

After the liberation of the strategic al-Zohour heights that is near Old Sheikh Najjar Industrial Zone and taking control over Hananou Housing Project, the terrorists’ positions and control have been significantly weakened in the Eastern part of Aleppo.

In their large-scale operation, the army soldiers and popular forces advanced against terrorists in the flank near the factories in Old Sheikh Najjar and Jabal Badrou district.

The army men managed to fortify their positions in a major part of Arz al-Hamra and Jabal Badrou and expanded their offensives against militants in the Youth Housing Project and the Hananou Housing Project and advanced in these two battlefields too.

Jabal Badrou is adjacent to Sheikh Najjar and Aleppo international airport and the current battle in this region could decide the fate of the war in Eastern Aleppo.

Pro-government forces, meantime, took control of several workshops in the Old Sheikh Najjar Industrial Zone.

Also in the past 24 hours, Syrian Army soldiers and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters continued to drive Jeish al-Fatah terrorists out of more key positions in Aleppo city and won back a key highway South of Sheikh Saeed district.

The army men and Hezbollah fighters, who started a fresh phase of attacks in Sheikh Saeed on Tuesday, managed to capture more positions in the Southern part of the district.

Pro-government forces took control of the Housing Company and the key highway that connects Aleppo international airport to al-Ramouseh region.

An army commander said on Wednesday that over 100 terrorists, including three notorious commanders, were killed in clashes with the Syrian Army and popular forces in Sheikh Saeed district South of Aleppo city in last 48 hours.

“In addition to the liberation of several key positions and areas in the government forces’ offensives on Tuesday and Wednesday, over 100 terrorists, including Commander of Nouralddeen al-Zinki Omar Haji, have been killed in Sheikh Saeed battlefields,” the commander said.

The army men engaged in heavy fighting with ISIL near al-Thardah mountain Southwest of Deir Ezzur city, while other units of the army engaged in fierce clashes with the terrorists near the Airbase South of the city.

Fighting has been underway between the army men and ISIL terrorists in al-Thardah mountain and South of the Airbase ever since the US-led coalition airstrikes on Syrian army positions near Deir Ezzur two months ago.

In the meantime, the army men repelled ISIL’s attack to capture al-Jafrah to arrive at the Eastern gate of Deir Ezzur airbase.

Damascus

The Syrian Army troops continued to storm Jeish al-Islam terrorists’ positions in Eastern Ghouta of Damascus and came close to Douma city.

The army soldiers struck more victories against terrorists of Jeish al-Islam near the strategic town of Meida’ani and came closer to the city of Douma, the main stronghold of Jeish al-Islam in region.

Backed up by the Syrian fighter jets, the army men stormed terrorists’ defense lines in Meida’ani and managed to advance against them.

Terrorist-affiliated websites also disclosed that concurrent with army advances and its capture of over seven farms near Meida’ani, the rebels of Jeish al-Islam retreated from several bases in the town.

“The army attack on terrorists in Meida’ani inflicted a heavy blow to Jeish al-Islam, because this town is one of the most important strongholds of the terrorists and is seen as their center of gravity in the region,” a Syrian military source said.

The source further added that the army soldiers are on the threshold of cutting off one of the main lines of terrorists’ movements from the town of al-Dhamir to Douma and will soon tighten siege on the terrorists.

“After the army control over Meida’ani, the government forces will arrive at al-Nashabiyeh region which is called by the terrorists as the first defense line of Douma,’ the source underlined.

Homs

Syrian Army soldiers fended off ISIL’s offensive on a military airport near the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in Eastern Homs, killing a number of terrorists.

The army soldiers engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL terrorists and repelled their attack on Palmyra’s airbase, killing and wounding a number of militants.

Reports said the camp, its military grid and military vehicles were completely destroyed in the air assault.

Over 70 militants were killed and many more were wounded in the air raid.

Quneitra

Syrian Army soldiers and National Defense Forces started fresh attacks on terrorists’ defense lines in Northern Quneitra, capturing over 1.5 square kilometers in the first hours of their offensive.

The pro-government forces stormed terrorists’ positions North of al-Seriyeh al-Rabe’eh region and took back at least 1.5 square kilometers of land from the militants.

The army men and popular forces carried out a surprise attack on terrorists’ centers in al-Naqar al-Gharbi region to the North of al-Seriyeh al-Rabe’eh region, inflicting a heavy death toll on the militants and capturing key lands in the battlefield.

The army men also restored security to the road connecting the two towns of al-Amal and Hadhar.

The Syrian army soldiers meantime targeted several military vehicles of the terrorists on a road to al-Kasareh near the town of Toranjeh, killing and wounding the militants on board.

With cleansing this strategic region, a new path will open for popular forces to the town of Hadhar and meantime dispatch of fresh forces and equipment to the region will be easier.

Idlib, Hama

The Syrian fighter jets carried out tens of sorties over the terrorists’ supply routes which link Idlib and Hama provinces to Aleppo to prevent transfer of fighters, weapons and ammunition.

Concurrent with the continuation of the Syrian army’s anti-terrorism operations in different parts of Aleppo city, the army aircraft carried out several combat flights over the supply roads used by the terrorists in the provinces of Idlib and Hama in order to prevent dispatch of fresh militants and equipment to the terrorist groups in Aleppo.

The Syrian bombers targeted a long convoy of terrorists’ vehicles on Hama-Idlib highway that is one of the terrorists’ most important lines of movements, killing a number of Jeish al-Fatah’s terrorists and destroying their military vehicles.
