Mike Huckabee Wants Mitt Romney to Kiss the Ring of Trump
This is why nobody likes Mike Huckabee.
The former Arkansas governor is among Trump’s loyalists who believe anyone in line for a position in the Trump administration should kiss the ring, first.
At issue is the very real possibility of Trump naming Mitt Romney to the Secretary of State slot.
On Tuesday evening, Romney met with Trump and Reince Priebus for a late night dinner, presumably to talk about the SoS appointment.
“Both [future chief of staff] Reince Priebus and Donald Trump were having filet,” Huckabee said on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom” Wednesday. “On Mitt Romney’s plate there was a big, big slice of crow.
“The irony here is that it’s not so much the relationship Donald Trump has with Mitt Romney,” the former GOP presidential candidate added. “It’s the relationship that Mitt Romney has with voters who elected Donald Trump.
“I think that the outrage that is being expressed among many Trump supporters is that it wasn’t just that Romney dissed Donald Trump, but that he really took a swipe and spoke contemptuously of the people that made Donald Trump the president of the United States. At some point, Mitt Romney has to address that.”
No. He really doesn’t.
Long before any mea culpas are made, Romney’s first order of business is to convince Trump he would be competent at the job.
If he were appointed to the position, his next order of business is to prove he can do the job. By doing so, Trump looks competent for picking him.
That’s all that is required of him.
Huckabee went on to suggest that because of Romney’s harsh criticism of Trump, he couldn’t be trusted to not go rogue, once approved for the State Department.
Of all the adjectives used to describe Romney in the past, “rogue” has never been one of them.
Other candidates for the post include former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R), retired Gen. David Petraeus and Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.).
The inner circle want Mayor Giuliani. He has proven to be a loyal and unthinking toady, throughout.
That, to Huckabee, makes for a better fit, than somebody that might just be qualified.
