Syrian Army On Verge of Epoch-Making Victory in Aleppo

Aleppo is to be announced a completely liberated city by the Syrian army any moment now after hundreds of terrorists surrendered to the Syrian army at the end of daylong secret talks with government officials in Eastern Aleppo, while the remaining few hundreds under a now very tight siege have agreed to the Damascus terms to evacuate the city in less than two days.

Hundreds of militants left Aleppo city on Green Buses Tuesday night after they removed barricades at Bab Al-Hadid Square (the Iron Gate) in Southeastern Aleppo and allowed civilians to evacuate the war zone hours earlier.

The militants of Fatah Al-Halab (Conquest of Aleppo) – one of a dozen terrorist groups operating under the umbrella of Jeish Al-Fatah coalition – surrendered almost all Old Aleppo districts after the Syrian Army’s swift advances West of the Aleppo International Airport risked splitting them apart from their comrades further South.

The terrorists gave up fight and requested ceasefire talks with the government after their massive counteroffensive at Karm Al-Maysar and Karm Al-Qaterjy failed to yield any gains. Making matters worse for the insurgents, the Syrian Armed Forces would proceed to capture Sha’ar district, and the nearby Turbet Lala, Qadi Askar and Qarleq districts to arrive at Bab Al-Hadid on Tuesday.

Later in the day, the militants engaged in secret negotiations with government officials in Aleppo to surrender the Old Aleppo quarter and leave the city.

Bab Al-Hadid Square is a few hundred yards North-East of Aleppo Citadel and is the borderline of the Old Aleppo quarter to the East.

The only pocket of Jeish Al-Fatah terrorists now remaining in the city are mostly from Al-Qaeda’s Nusra Front (recently renamed to Fatah Al-Sham Front) and Noureddin Al-Zinki that are further to the South in Bostan al-Qasr (Also Bostan Alkaser) and its adjacent districts and under a very tight siege of the army and Hezbollah troops.

Early Wednesday morning reports by several regional Arab media outlets quoted rebel sources as declaring that factions operating in the few remaining Eastern Aleppo districts have now agreed to pull out completely.

The Arab media and activists all confirmed that the terrorists have been negotiating with Russia through representatives in Turkey over an evacuation plan from Eastern Aleppo.

Reports suggested that a Turkish-Russian agreement has been reached over the surrender of the remaining East Aleppo districts under jihadists’ control after extended negotiations between leaders of opposition groups and Russian officers in Turkey.

The Syrian army also confirmed that militants will start leaving Aleppo in 48 hours.

Meantime, militants have started confirming through their social media pages and websites that they are to leave Aleppo after several years, acknowledging defeat.

Over the last two days terrorists’ affiliated media outlets have been sending consoling messages, saying ‘we are losing Aleppo but we will fight in other places’, showing that they were preparing to surrender Aleppo, but the messages appearing on these media now are all filled with sorrow, acknowledging final defeat.

On the other side of the war, radio exchanges are heard among Syrian army and Hezbollah commanders felicitating each other on the landmark victory that is a turning point in the war on terrorism in Syria and will be of unrivaled weight at any political talks on the future of Syria.

People All throughout Aleppo are heard shouting Allah-u-Akbar (God is Great) from above their rooftops and mosques in a show of joy and victory.

Aleppo will once again see a clam day and there will be many family reunions when citizens come together from the West and the East to celebrate end of war in their city. They will shed tears, but this time of joy, today or tomorrow.

The comprehensive military campaign to liberate the Northern Iraqi city of Mosul continued on Wednesday and the Iraqi Army backed by Counter-Terrorism Units, gained more grounds in the city of Mosul, after heavy clashes with ISIL militants.

Iraqi Forces Recapture 24 Districts in Mosul after Clashes with ISIL

The Iraqi Army’s 16th Infantry Division, backed by Counter-Terrorism Units, gained more ground in the city of Mosul, after heavy clashes with ISIL militants.

The Iraqi forces were reportedly able to capture 24 neighborhoods in Mosul City after hitting ISIL’ key positions there, forcing the group to retreat towards the city center, ARA News reported.

“Subsequent to clashes with ISIL terrorists, our forces have liberated 24 neighborhoods and besieged several others,” the Iraqi Army General Command said in a statement.

It added that their forces started dismantling landmines and explosive devices in the captured areas in the war-torn city of Mosul.

“All roads and buildings in the liberated neighborhoods are being cleared by our special forces,” the Iraqi command said.

Iraqi Security Forces Surround Six Villages on Shirqat Left Coast

An Iraqi local official confirmed on Wednesday that the Iraqi security forces have imposed a blockade on six villages on the left coast of Shirqat, South of Mosul, in preparation for storming them.

“The security forces are preparing for the liberation of six villages soon after besieging them and deploying the tanks in the surroundings areas”, said the mayor of Shirqat district, Ali Dodah, Badr News reported.

He added that the air force has bombed sites and dens used by ISIL militants on the left coast that resulted in the killing of more than 15 terrorists.

Heavy Clashes in Mosul District as Iraqi Troops Advance against ISIL

Fierce clashes erupted in Mosul’s al-Salam neighborhood, as Iraqi forces make gains against ISIL terrorists deep inside the Northern city and advance closer to the Tigris River, which divides the city into Eastern and Western sides.

The Iraqi army’s 9th Armored Division announced the recapture of al-Salam Hospital in Eastern Mosul on Tuesday, however, fighting continued on Wednesday in the al-Salam neighborhood, where the five-storey medical institution is situated, presstv reported.

The ISIL elements were said to have been using the hospital’s upper floors and roof as sniper positions for some time.

“We advanced in al-Salam district but the situation is difficult, there is heavy fighting,” said Iraqi Brigadier General Shaker Kadhem, adding, “We took control of al-Salam Hospital, which was a command Center for ISIL.”

How Iran closed the Mosul ‘horseshoe’ and changed Iraq war

https://www.yahoo.com/news/iran-closed-mosul-horseshoe-changed-iraq-war-123511420.html?ref=gs

In the early days of the assault on Islamic State in Mosul, Iran successfully pressed Iraq to change its battle plan and seal off the city, an intervention which has since shaped the tortuous course of the conflict, sources briefed on the plan say. The original campaign strategy called for Iraqi forces to close in around Mosul in a horseshoe formation, blocking three fronts but leaving open the fourth – to the west of the city leading to Islamic State territory in neighboring Syria. That model, used to recapture several Iraqi cities from the ultra-hardline militants in the last two years, would have left fighters and civilians a clear route of escape and could have made the Mosul battle quicker and simpler. But Tehran, anxious that retreating fighters would sweep back into Syria just as Iran’s ally President Bashar al-Assad was gaining the upper hand in his country’s five-year civil war, wanted Islamic State crushed and eliminated in Mosul. The sources say Iran lobbied for Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization fighters to be sent to the western front to seal off the link between Mosul and Raqqa, the two main cities of Islamic State’s self-declared cross-border caliphate.

That link is now broken. For the first time in Iraq’s two-and-half-year, Western-backed drive to defeat Islamic State, several thousand militants have little choice but to fight to the death, and 1 million remaining Mosul citizens have no escape from the front lines creeping ever closer to the city center. “If you corner your enemy and don’t leave an escape, he will fight till the end,” said a Kurdish official involved in planning the Mosul battle. “In the west, the initial idea was to have a corridor … but the Hashid (Popular Mobilisation) insisted on closing this loophole to prevent them going to Syria,” he told Reuters.

The battle for Mosul is the biggest in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion of 2003. In all, around 100,000 people are fighting on the government side, including Iraqi soldiers and police, “peshmerga” troops of the autonomous Kurdish region and fighters in the Popular Mobilisation units. A U.S.-led international coalition is providing air and ground support. Iraqi army commanders have repeatedly said that the presence of civilians on the battlefield has complicated and slowed their seven-week-old operation, restricting air strikes and the use of heavy weapons in populated areas. They considered a change in strategy to allow civilians out, but rejected the idea because they feared that fleeing residents could be massacred by the militants, who have executed civilians to prevent them from escaping other battles. Authorities and aid groups would also struggle to deal with a mass exodus.
