UK Government and the FCPNM

 For anyone out there with plans on becoming a dictator, the UK Government would like to hear from you, they might have a position for you. Dictators and democratically elected governments have little to differentiate them these days. For example, the Cabinet Office has decided that the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities isn’t that important and can simply be ignored:

“‘I note that you have referred to the fact that the Cornish people have now been granted minority status under the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. However, the Government considers that equality and fairness must be the overriding principles when the Boundary Commissions carry out boundary reviews. For something as important as the right to choose the Government of the day, the Government believes it is important that votes carry a more equal weight across the country. For this to be the case each constituency must contain an approximately equal number of electors”

Sounds really fair and equal eh? The Chagos Islands pop to mind. Almost every town council has protested, people have even said they’d be happy if Cornwall had one less MP, so why the urgency with fairness and equality? The reason Cornwall campaigned for so long to be added to the FCPNM was to ensure fair treatment of Cornwall, the Cornish and their ways, which goes to show how ridiculous the idea of “fairness and equality” is here in our land. So why the urgency? Plans are afoot, Cornwall has for long campaigned for a Cornish Assembly, sharing an MP would put heed to that wish, we’re the only Celtic nation in the UK to not have an Assembly. Whatever the reason “fairness and equality” aren’t the reasons, considering Englands track record of invading countries and displacing the inhabitants. Cornwall seems to be the next in the list. Must be nice to pick and choose which laws apply to you, maybe we should try the same thing, then it’d all be fair and equal.
