Billie Lourd Posts a Simple Tribute to Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds

After Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds died on consecutive days last week, many people immediately thought of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, and her brother, Todd Fisher, who had now suffered two immense losses.

Today, Billie broke her silence, posting a brief but poignant Instagram tribute to her “Momby” and “Abadaba”:

Receiving all of your prayers and kind words over the past week has given me strength during a time I thought strength could not exist. There are no words to express how much I will miss my Abadaba and my one and only Momby. Your love and support means the world to me.

The tribute featured an old photo of the trio:

Joely Fisher, Carrie’s sister, published her remembrances in today’s The Hollywood Reporter, describing the strength of the women in the Fisher/Reynolds/Stevens clan, and vowing to “use the force” to help her niece.

You all lost Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher; I lost my hero, my mentor, my mirror….There is no universe where these ladies are not due their appropriate pedestals, and both will be memorialized in separate ceremonies in coming weeks. My sister Tricia Leigh and I vow to be whatever our niece Billie needs us to be. We will pick up the the saber, use the force…whatever. We will honor these two magical people who have left the tribe in the way they lived, with grandeur and grace.

Carrie’s Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill paid tribute to his friend, describing their decades-long friendship:

I mean, she was just so instantly ingratiating and funny and outspoken. She had a way of just being so brutally candid. I’d just met her but it was like talking to a person you’d known for ten years….She was so committed to joy and fun and embracing life….Making her laugh was always a badge of honor.

I’m grateful that we stayed friends and got to have this second act with the new movies….We ran the gamut over the years, where we were in love with each other, where we hated each other’s guts. “I’m not speaking to you, you’re such a judgmental, royal brat!” We went through it all. It’s like we were a family.

When you were in her good graces, you couldn’t have more fun with any person on the planet. She was able to make you feel like you were the most important thing in her life. I think that’s a really rare quality. And then you could go 180 degrees opposite, where you were furious with one another and wouldn’t speak for weeks and weeks. But that’s all part of what makes a relationship complete. It’s not all one sided. Like I say, she was a handful. She was high maintenance. But my life would have been so much drabber and less interesting if she hadn’t been the friend that she was.

Fisher and Reynolds will be buried Friday in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn.
