Guess Whose Daughter and Granddaughter Just Got Arrested for Theft and Animal Cruelty

A mother and daughter in La Plata, Maryland were arrested Wednesday for the theft of a U-Haul truck. After stopping them, police found several pit bull terriers in the back of the U-Haul. The dogs showed signs of being treated inhumanely. The two women are the daughter and granddaughter of civil rights figure Malcom X.

Investigators say 51-year-old Malikah Saban Shabazz and 19-year-old Bettih Bahiyah Shabazz were arrested. Seven pit bull terriers, some with severe injuries, were found in the back of the truck being kept in inhumane conditions. Animal Control transported the dogs to the Tri-County Animal Shelter, where they are currently in stable condition.

Malikah Shabazz was charged with 7 counts of animal cruelty and theft. Bettih Shabazz was charged with theft. Malikah Shabazz gave an address in Stark, New Hampshire, but Bettih Shabazz gave no fixed address.

A spokesperson with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office tells FOX 5 DC that Malikah Shabazz is the daughter of Malcolm X, and Battih Shabazz is his granddaughter.

It would appear that this has something to do with dog fighting but there haven’t been any details released about that.

Malikah Shabazz was born after her father was assassinated in 1965 and has a criminal history. In 2011 she was charged with identity theft and grand larceny and sentenced to probation but was later jailed for failing to repay the money she stole from Khaula Bakr by stealing her identity.
