An earthquake warning was issued yesterday January 2, 2017 for a potential M7.3 to 8.3 to strike the area just to the West of yesterdays deep earthquake below Fiji (M6.3 deep EQ).

Update: A M5.7 Aftershock has been recorded in the same area.
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 has struck off the coast of Fiji, according to the US Geological Survey.  The quake centered some 221 km southwest of Nadi at a depth of 15.2 km, the USGS said.

Tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers of the
earthquake epicenter, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has warned.
