The Left Shouldn’t Laugh Too Hard at Defensive Trump Supporters for Thinking #ResistanceRadio Was Real

(Before It's News)

People are confusing fiction with reality again. An Amazon promotion for “The Man in the High Castle” featured an anti-Nazi pirate radio operation. Some Trump supporters naturally reacted as if it were directed against them, but the left shouldn’t laugh too hard about that.

“The Man in the High Castle” is an Amazon Prime original series. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing a fascinating show set in an alternative universe where the Axis Powers won World War II and the United States is occupied by the Nazis in the east and Imperial Japan in the west. Over the weekend, a social media campaign to market the show under the hashtag #ResistanceRadio was being taken literally by political partisans.

At SXSW in Austin last week, as part of a marketing campaign for “The Man in the High Castle,” Amazon launched “Resistance Radio,” a fake Internet-based radio station broadcast by the fictional American “Resistance” from the show.

“Hijacking the airwaves, a secret network of DJs broadcast messages of hope to keep the memory of a former America alive,” the website said. Click through, and an interactive image of an antique, dual-knob radio appears while mod tunes drift through your computer’s speakers. In between songs, DJs on three different stations speak about how to fight the “Reich” in America.

Soon #ResistanceRadio, the campaign’s sponsored hashtag, spread like wildfire on Twitter. Some Trump supporters seemingly mistook it for an anti-Trump radio station and expressed their displeasure. (Amazon founder Jeffrey P. Bezos owns The Washington Post.)

There’s no excuse for people rage tweeting without doing even a cursory investigation into whether there is actually something to be angry about. That applies to the average Joe as well as national pundits and politicians, even the president. It is very easy to say something stupid you can’t retract these days.

It says that many of them are hypersensitive to criticism and have knee jerk reactions to things they see online. Part of that is because of the same uncritical media consumption habits that have enabled the whole “fake news” phenomenon. But this is a situation created by the left’s paranoia as much as it is a failure of critical thinking on the part of defensive Trump supporters.

Without the overwrought left constantly invoking Hitler and promoting “resistance” it is entirely understandable that some people would be conditioned to assume something that appears to attack Naziism is being directed at them. Keep in mind that many of the people celebrating the mistake as a sign of their own intellectual superiority remain convinced that Mike Pence wants to electroshock gay people into heterosexuality against their will.

We have ignorant extremes using up oxygen fighting against fantasies. That’s not funny.

Ok, that’s a little funny.
