Celebrity Sheriff May Be Rewarded With Homeland Security Position

More rewards for his campaign surrogates and supporters.

Not that this is unusual, but for some who have seen David Clarke, sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin emerge as more of a “celebrity sheriff” and less as a responsible public servant, doing the job he was elected to do for the citizens of Milwaukee County, this is probably troublesome.

POLITICO is reporting on a possible appointment for Clarke with the Department of Homeland Security.

Clarke is in line to be appointed as assistant secretary at DHS’ Office of Partnership and Engagement, which coordinates outreach to state, local and tribal officials and law enforcement. The position does not require Senate confirmation.

It’s not a sure thing, yet, but Clarke has certainly invested time in polishing the tracks for the Trump train.

He actually jumped on board early and was a frequent guest at Trump’s campaign headquarters, Fox News.

He even spoke at the Republican National Convention last year.

While the rest of the country probably just sees Clarke as a special contributor with Fox News, the people of Wisconsin are wondering why he isn’t spending more time on his actual job.

In fact, while Clarke fiddles, Milwaukee County burns.

Multiple complaints from the Milwaukee County Jail, including the case of Terrill Thomas, who died of dehydration last year, after guards turned off water to his cell for a week, have caused some to ask who is managing the affairs of the county while Clarke poses for his close-up?

Clarke also has faced criticism for participating in a National Rifle Association-backed trip to Russia in 2015, where he and other members of the group’s delegation reportedly met with Dmitry Rogozin, one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s deputies. Rogozin was sanctioned by the U.S. government in 2014.

Wisconsin. NRA. Russia.

Is anyone seeing the connection, because I don’t. I’m not sure what any of this has to do with being sheriff.

If he is rewarded with a position with Homeland Security, it’s a sure bet that it is a position of political favoritism, and not one based on qualifications.
