 Turkish Fighter Jets, Artillery Pound Kurdish Areas in Afrin

The Turkish army attacked the Kurdish-populated areas in Syria’s Northern region of Afrin with fighter jets and artillery fire.

According to ANHA TV channel, Turkey’s attacks focused on Ferfirak village in Rajou area of Afrin region.

The report said that fighter jets, heavy weapons and artillery fire were used by the Turkish army in the aggression and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) resisted against it, adding that clashes still continue in the region.

No report has yet been released about the number of casualties in Ankara’s attack.

In a relevant development on Tuesday morning, 26 Turkish warplanes attacked the mountainous areas of Qarjoukh and several other villages in Dirak region, killing 20 Kurdish fighters.

Also, last week, the Turkish army soldiers and allied militants targeted heavily the positions of Kurdish fighters in five different regions in Northern Aleppo, escalating fierce clashes with the Kurds.

Artillery and mortar units and tanks of the Turkish army and Ankara-backed militants of the Euphrates Shield Operation shelled Kurdish combatants’ concentration centers and defense lines in the villages of al-Shahba, al-Samouqeh, Zouyan, al-Hasiyeh and Um Hawsh in around the towns of Ezaz and Afrin in Northern Hama.

The Kurdish fighters in return opened heavy fire at the Euphrates Shield forces’ positions. In the meantime, the Kurdish fighters engaged in heavy fighting with the Turkish army men and their allied militants in the village of Qastal Jandou.

The comprehensive military campaign by Iraqi military forces to liberate the Northern city of Mosul from ISIL militants continued on Wednesday, as local reports said Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) liberated 12 villages near the Iraqi city of Mosul in an operation against the ISIL terrorist group.

Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) liberated 12 villages near the Iraqi city of Mosul in an offensive operation against ISIL terrorist group, which is outlawed in Russia and many other countries, Iraqi Defense Ministry said.

The PMF has liberated the villages in a joint operation with the Iraqi Army Aviation in the al-Hadher district, South of the city of Mosul, the Defense Ministry of Iraq said, Iraqi News reported.

On April 20, the Iraqi forces have liberated Al-Thawra district of western Mosul from Daesh, Iraqi Army’s Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yaarallah said.

Iraqi Forces Cut off ISIL Supply Line between Ba’aj, Al-Hadher

Iraqi popular forces announced that they managed to cut off the ISIL supply line between Ba’aj and al-Hadher districts in Nineveh Province, while discovered a cache containing weapons and equipment North of al-Hadher district.

An Iraqi popular self-defense group, locally known as Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, said in a statement that the group’s forces cut off the ISIL’s supply line between al-Ba’aj and al-Hadher Districts, and detonated seven booby-trapped vehicles in al-Musalten Village, Al Masdar reported.

They also noted that seven ISIL militants were killed during the battles.

Baghdad Condemns Turkey Airstrikes in Northern Iraq

The Iraqi government condemned Turkish air strikes in Northern Iraq in which forces from the autonomous Kurdistan region were killed in an apparent accident.

“The Iraqi government condemns and rejects the strikes carried out by Turkish aircraft on Iraqi territory,” spokesman Saad al-Hadithi said in a statement, New Indian Express reported.

Turkey frequently launches airstrikes in the mountainous regions of northern Iraq without coordination with Baghdad. Ankara has also deployed troops into Iraq, sparking a bitter rift with Baghdad.
