Ivanka Trump’s Brand Expands In China After Dinner At Mar-a-Lago

The Hill is covering a report from the AP about the expanding Ivanka Trump brand. In particular, three new brand trademarks were approved in China this month, on the same day Ivanka and Jared Kushner dined with Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife at Mar-a-Lago.

Xi visited Mar-a-Lago, President Trump’s luxury resort in Palm Beach, Fla., on April 6. Trump and Kushner attended the state dinner that evening, sitting next to the world leader. The AP found that three trademarks that confer monopoly rights to sell Ivanka brand jewelry, bags and spa services were approved in China on the same day as the dinner.

Ivanka placed her interests in her fashion business in a trust, before taking a role in the White House as an unpaid adviser to her dad.

Meanwhile, her new visibility has caused her business to boom.

Earlier in the year, outlets like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Nordstrom either pulled or diminished the line in their stores.

As her influence on the American political scene grows, so does her brand name, with a 346 percent sales boost.

She’s actually more popular than her dad, in some polls.

Still, there’s a concern that she and her father may be dancing perilously close to a violation of conflict of interest rules, while using their new positions as a means to bulk up their personal wealth.

Reports like the one concerning her contact with the Chinese president probably won’t go very far towards backing off those concerns.
