No One Should Find Out They’re Fired By Seeing It Announced On TV

I’ve seen the sharp and definitive divide between opinions about FBI Director James Comey’s firing.

Folks either think it was an awful idea, with insidious intent, or it was a long-overdue occurrence.

Here’s my question: What do you think of Comey reportedly finding out about his firing from breaking news on TV?

The word is that they went to the FBI offices to deliver the termination letter to Comey, but he was already in Los Angeles to speak with new recruits and give a speech.

My theory is, it could have waited. If the reasons given in the letter were true – that he was fired because of his testimony about Hillary Clinton’s emails – then it wasn’t that pressing. It could have waited until he had a sit down with the president, or at least Attorney General Jeff Sessions, personally.

In all honesty, if Trump were that upset that Comey chose not to pursue a case against Clinton, he could have replaced Comey in January, but, again, he didn’t. Obviously, the Clinton issue wasn’t that big of a concern.

I find the idea of Comey finding out about his firing from TV to be distasteful, to say the least.

And I’m not the only one.

Florida Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo agrees with me, and tweeted out his feelings.

Poor form, indeed.

Curbelo added in a separate statement that Comey’s ouster must not impede the FBI’s probe “of the Russian government’s efforts to influence our last election.”

“Congress and the American people need a transparent explanation as to how this decision was reached and why it was executed at this time.”

Several lawmakers have suggested that they will be seeking some clarification from AG sessions or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on their recommendation to fire Comey.
