Schadenfruede: Book About Failed Hillary Campaign May Become TV Series

Shattered, the much-discussed book about the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign, has been optioned as a limited television series by TriStar Television, according to The New York Times.

The book, written by journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, is one of the first post-mortems of the failed Clinton campaign and gives contested accounts of infighting and dysfunction amongst staff. And more books are forthcoming:

Among the first post-mortems of the election, “Shattered” has been a mainstay in dinner-party chatter in political circles since its publication. The continued interest in the election has brought talk of other book-to-TV series as well. The political journalists and analysts Mark Halperin and John Heilemann are currently working on a book about the 2016 election that has also been acquired for a mini-series by HBO.

Former Clinton campaign staffers have argued the book doesn’t accurately portray the campaign, but it doesn’t matter. We all know the ending and Shattered is full of schadenfreude-inducing details and ultimately, the unraveling and national set-down of Her Highness Hillary Clinton.

I can’t work up too much excitement over watching the national disgrace that was 2016 — we still ended up with a terrible president — but after being subjected to the Clinton family ambition for two-and-a-half decades, we deserve a little entertainment at their expense.
