Iraqi forces are engaged in fierce fighting in Mosul’s Old City

The Iraqi Army, alongside the Federal Police began an important operation, to clear the last District under the control of the so-called Islamic State in Mosul… Withe ISIS completely surrounded in Old Mosul District, the Iraqi Army forces gave the Terrorist-organization one last chance to surrender;however, this was ignored… Under the instructions of the Iraqi Joint Command, the Army and Federal Police, began shelling the Old Mosul District in order to weaken the so-called Islamic States resolve, before storming the area… Iraqi Anti-Terrorist units started advancing in the Western part of the Old Mosul area, in the morning on Sunday… Iraqi Federal Police forces advancing from the Southern front… From its side ISIS fighters launched an attack on Iraqi forces positions in the Aleppo Street, Al-Dawasah District, and the Bab Al-Toob area… Isis claimed that its militants managed to destroy 12 Iraqi Army points, and killed & injured a number of Iraqi Soldiers… However, Iraqi sources said that the attack was repelled by Iraqi Army… Once Old Mosul is liberated, the Iraqi Armed forces will have full control of Mosul city, for the first time since the summer of 2014…

The leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution says Tehran is opposed to a secessionist referendum in neighboring Iraq, expressing full support for Iraq’s territorial integrity. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said those leading calls for such a referendum were against the country’s independence. Speaking to Iraqi visiting Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei warned against a U-S military deployment in Iraq under the pretext of training local forces. The leader questioned the U-S-led coalition’s intentions in its anti-Daesh campaign, given their backing and financial support for the takfiri terrorists. Ayatollah Khamenei credited Baghdad’s right policies and the unity of Iraqi factions for the country’s victories against Daesh. Earlier in the day, Abadi held talks with the Iranian president, who also warned against division of Iraq’s territory and voiced support for the Iraqi nation’s fight against terrorists. Hassan Rouhani hailed the imminent liberation of Mosul as a victory for all regional countries engaged in fighting terrorism.
