Israeli Army Detains Former Hunger Striker Muhammad Allan, 10 Other Palestinians

Israeli forces detained at least 11 Palestinians between Wednesday and Thursday across the occupied Palestinian territory, Israeli and Palestinian sources said, including prominent former prisoner Muhammad Allan. One Palestinian was detained in the village of Einabus, and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said the detained Palestinian was former prisoner Allan, Ma’an reported. Allan, a lawyer, prominently underwent a 66-day hunger strike in 2015 to protest being held by Israel under its highly contested policy of administrative detention, internment without trial or charges.

Elsewhere in the Nablus district, two other Palestinians were detained. Locals identified them as Ahmad Nizar Ziyada and Asid Abd al-Nasser Qit, adding that Qit was a student currently passing his final exams ahead of graduation. The army also listed the detention of an alleged Hamas member in the Tulkarem-district, and another detention in the city of Qalqiliya. PPS also said Omar Sari Ibrahim, 18, was detained in village of Anabta, while another Palestinian detained in Qalqiliya, identified as Ahmad Abd al-Hadi Qatsha. In the Southern West Bank district of Bethlehem, one detention occurred in the village of Tuqu, whom PPS identified the detained person as Muhannad Hajahja. PPS added that Iyad Abu al-Awra was detained in the village of al-Khader. Meanwhile, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided a lathe workshop in the Bethlehem-area village of Beit Fajjar on Thursday morning and seized equipment it claimed was being used to manufacture weapons.

Meanwhile, locals said that Israeli forces raided the home of Fatah official Anwar Abu Hussein, as well as that of his brother Hussein Abu Hussein, in the city of Hebron, destroying furniture and seizing money. Clashes then erupted, with a number of Palestinian youths throwing stones at soldiers, who fired tear gas towards homes in the area, leaving several residents suffering from severe tear gas inhalation.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Due to the typically aggressive nature of the raids, clashes often erupt between local Palestinian youth who throw stones and are met in response with live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets, and tear gas, often resulting in serious, sometimes fatal injuries. According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 6,200 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of May.

Two female Palestinian children were killed in deliberate acts of violence by Israeli colonists this week in the West Bank and Haifa. The first child was sixteen year old Nada Adbach who was killed on May 30th as she was walking home with four of her friends from Iftar dinner (fast breaking meal during Ramadan). The sixty-five year old Israeli driver (an illegal settler) who ran her over did not seem to care at all, as he kept driving.

The second girl, Nouf Infiat, was 15 years old and was shot dead after it was claimed that she was about to perform a knife attack (typical of most Israeli claims after the murder of a Palestinian takes place, there was no evidence to back it). There has been a viral video of the incident released, within which Israeli colonists from the “Meto Dovan” settlement were standing near her with automatic weapons, along with Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) occupation troops who were screaming “die bitch! Die!” and “drown in your own blood”. This was said among a sea of other insults as the little girl slowly passed away from her fatal injury. Also it should be noted that this girl could have survived if treated quicker but instead she died a slow and painful death; she was ninth child to be wantonly shot in the West Bank this year.

………………The reality is, Palestinians have no army, no navy nor an air force; they have been under Israel’s occupation since 1967 in the West Bank and have since experienced some of the most brutal and intolerable conditions known in human history. Thus, this is the reason for Palestinian aggression against Israeli forces (both the IDF and Israeli colonial militias). Not to forget also that if we look at what is justifiable via the dictates of international law, according to the 1960 United Nations General Assembly resolution 1514 (XV) and the ‘Fourth Geneva Convention’, Palestinians in the West Bank are well within their legal rights – as a colonised people – to perform acts of resistance against their occupiers. Also, what should be noted is that according to United Nations resolution 2334, settlements have no legal basis and thus the approximately six hundred thousand (600,000) illegal settlers are committing a violation of international law by living on land to which they have no title.

Israel bypasses international law and it ignores morality when dealing with Palestinian children. Indeed, it begs the question, is this Israeli policy as an end in itself? Or is it the case that Israeli actions can be put down to racial hatred and pathological intolerance? In the latter case, such attitudes have to have been taught from somewhere.

Israel claim to have one of the most advanced armed forces in the world; they claim that their soldiers are some of the most well-trained in the world. Yet when confronted with a situation such as on May 7th of this year, when a small figured sixteen year old girl by the name of Fatima Hjeiji – who Israeli colonial authorities suspected of possessing a knife (again, no evidence to support that claim) – entered the Damascus gate checkpoint in Jerusalem, they shot first (20 times) and never asked questions.
