Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the situation in Syria has significantly improved, with the terrorists having suffered significant losses.

The situation in Syria has significantly improved, with the terrorists having suffered significant losses, including due to efforts of Ankara, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday during the talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the G20 summit, Sputnik reported.

“Considerably due to your position, Mr. President, the drastic improvement of the situation in Syria has been achieved: terrorists suffered significant losses and the significant progress in the peace settlement was reached,” Putin told Erdogan.

The Russian President highly appreciated the Turkish position as well as positions of all partners taking part in the negotiating process.

Putin also praised the recent developments in the bilateral Russian-Turkish relations.

“Much work has been recently done both for the comprehensive development of the bilateral relations and for solving a number of issues interesting for us,” the Russian leader added.

Iran, Russia Send Military Delegation to Afrin

Kurdish sources reported that a Russian-Iranian military delegation has recently been dispatched to Northern Aleppo to study the situation in the strategic town of Afrin after Turkey’s recent threats to launch ground assault against the town.

Al-Darar al-Shamiyeh news website affiliated to the dissidents quoted the sources as saying that the delegation has entered Afrin.

Also, the Saudi al-Hayat newspaper reported that the delegation has been sent to Afrin to become informed of the latest achievements gained by the army and its allies after the recent Syria peace talks in Astana as well as the field situation in the town and Northern Aleppo after Turkey’s recent threats.

A well-informed local source in Northern Aleppo reported earlier this month that thousands of militants affiliated to the Turkish Army are to kick off an imminent large-scale operation codenamed Seif al-Forat (the Euphrates Sword) in Afrin region.

The source reported that the Syrian Army Forces (FSA), backed up by the Turkish soldiers, are ready now to carry out a large-scale operation in Afrin region with over 20,000 fighters.

The Turkish-language Sabah daily reported, meantime, that the Ankara-backed militants are expected to start their operation from West of the town of Azaz and from the town of Ein Daqneh and Ming military airport in Northern Aleppo to move towards the towns of Tal Rifat and Afrin in Aleppo province and the town of Tal Abyadh in Northern Raqqa.

 Iraq Forces Free Old Mosul from ISIL Terrorists

The General Command of Iraq’s Joint Operation announced minutes ago that the country’s forces have driven ISIL out of the Old Mosul district and paved the way for the full liberation of Mosul city from terrorists.

The General Command said in a statement that the old part of Mosul city (Old Mosul district) is under the full control of the Iraqi forces, adding that only a few hundred meters of a boulevard along the bank of the city’s river (the Tigris River) is under militants’ control.

Spokesman for the General Command of Iraq’s Joint Operation Brigadier General Yahya Rasoul said that the Iraqi forces are just a little far from the Tigris River bank in the West.

The Iraqi forces have established full military control over Mosul city and only a narrow strip along the edge of the Tigris River, East of al-Meidan region, has remained under ISIL’s control.

The Iraqi state TV announced approximately ten days ago that the ISIL collapsed in Mosul after the army regained control of al-Nuri mosque where the terrorist group’s ringleader proclaimed his self-styled “caliphate” three years ago.

The army won back control of the wrecked historic mosque of Mosul.

The ISIL militants had committed another historical crime by blowing up the al-Nuri mosque and its historical al-Hadba minaret.

The 850 year-old Mosul’s al-Nuri mosque is highly symbolic because it was there that leader of the ISIL group, Ibrahim al-Samarrai, also known as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, declared himself the so-called caliphate of the Takfiri terrorist group, shortly after the flashpoint city fell to terrorists in June 2014 and became their de facto capital in Iraq.

Meantime, the Iraqi defense ministry declared that “no region in Mosul city was under the ISIL terrorists’ control”.

The Iraqi operation to recapture Mosul, the key ISIL stronghold in Iraq, began in October 2016 and resulted in the liberation of Mosul’s Eastern part in January 2017.

The Iraqi Army started a new phase of its military operation in Nineveh province late February to drive the ISIL terrorists out of their bastion in the Western part of the city of Mosul.
