Iraqi Popular Forces Make Fresh Gains against ISIL at Borders with Syria, Jordan

The Hezbollah al-Nujaba, a major Iraqi Shiite resistance movement fighting the ISIL, continued its anti-terrorism operation and managed to impose control over more regions in the Iraq-Syria-Jordan border triangle.

Al-Nujaba forces stormed ISIL’s positions in Iraq-Syria-Jordan border triangle and captured al-Hajar and al-Bareka regions Southeast of Homs desert and two main roads to the Syria’s desert.

In the meantime, al-Nujaba’s missile units opened heavy fire at ISIL’s positions and destroyed several armored and military vehicles in Um al-Raml region in Syria’ desert.

An Iraqi commander that led the war to retake Iraq’s second largest city said on Sunday that the security operations against the ISIL militants in Mosul left 25,000 militants dead.

Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir Yarallah, head of the Nineveh Operations at the Joint Operations Command, said in a briefing that more than 25,000 militants were killed over the nine months of battles, including more than 450 suicide bombers, Iraqi News reported.

Iraqi forces destroyed 1247 booby-trapped cars and shot down 130 drones belonging to the group besides more than 1500 diverse vehicles, Yarallah said.

The JOC fought the battle with more than 100.000 government and paramilitary troops, Yarallah added. “The Iraqi army fought a battle that no army in the world had fought,” the commander said.

Only the regions of Mahalabiya, Ayyadia and Tal Afar still witness an ISIL existence, and with their recapture, the province becomes fully liberated, according to the commander.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over ISIL in Mosul on July 9th after Iraqi forces took over western Mosul’s Old City, the birthplace of the ISIL where the group’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, made a sermon proclaiming control over a third of Iraq and Syria.

In a separate statement, Iyad al-Assali, an Iraqi police lieutenant, told Turkish agency Anadolu that security arrested 245 suspected ISIL militants in Western Mosul’s Old City since Iraqi troops took over the medieval area.

MP Rejects Establishment of Saudi Military Base in Iraqi Kurdistan Region

Representative of the Kurdish Gorran Movement at Iraq’s parliament Shirin Reza dismissed as impossible establishment of a Saudi military base in Kurdistan region.

“The central government in Iraq and the officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan region will never accept what certain Saudi leaders have said about establishment of a Saudi military base because it will be turned into a ground for sparking ethnic wars,” Reza was quoted as saying by Ain al-Iraq news agency on Monday.

“Establishment of a Saudi military base in Kurdistan region is impossible,” he added.

An informed Kurdish official had revealed last month that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan have demanded the Iraqi Kurdistan officials to allow them to build military bases in the region for supporting their decision to declare independence.

“Based on this agreement, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan received promises to establish military bases in Dahouk and Erbil with the aim of confronting Iran and Turkey’s influence in exchange for supporting a referendum for independence and then formation of a Kurdish state,” the source said in an interview with al-Alam al-Jadid newspaper.

Noting that Riyadh and Erbil already have an agreement to exchange intel, the source said, “At present, hundreds of Saudi, UAE and Jordanian military men are already present in Erbil and Dahouk under the title of military advisors.

The Syrian Arab Army Tiger Forces have roll on to the provincial border between Raqqah-Homs, securing a number of key Gas-field along the way… These most recent gains comes as the Elite formation now begins to shift the full weight of its strategic reserve into the Battle to reach Al-Sukhnah from the North… The key Gas-fields liberated by the Tiger Forces late yesterday include the Zamleh Sharqiyah, B’ir Zamleh, and Al-Khalaa Gas-fields, situated in the Desert region between Raqqah and Palmyra East of Khirbet Halul Town, and their liberation represents the arrival of the Tiger Forces into Northeastern Homs Governorate via Raqqah Governorate… With the entry into Northeastern Hons Governorate, the flat, open Desert spaces so far transited through by the Tiger Forces will now begin to give way to increasingly rugged terrain as the Town of Al-Sukhnah is approached from the Western direction… It is in this specific region where Isis might begin to put up a committed resistance…

Syrian Arab Army troops have seized control over Al-Hayl Gas-field and it’s Oil pumping station in the suburbs of Homs, after regaining control over several locations between cities of Al-Sukhnah and Palmyra… An Syrian Arab Army Military commander said that Syrian troops were able to repel militants of the so-called Islamic State from the Southeastern direction of Al-Sukhnah, paving the way for the troops to further advance towards the city in a bid to score further gains… The Syrian Arab Army is now within 11 k.m² of Al-Sukhnah, leaving just a small stretch of highway that is under the control of the so-called Islamic State Terrorists forces… Once Al-Sukhnah is liberated the Syrian Arab Army will be at the provincial border of the Deir ez zor and within striking distance of the first Town in the Western part of the province…
