Nancy Pelosi and Terry McAuliffe are Racking Up Air Miles in Order to Defeat the GOP in 2018

Nancy Pelosi and Terry McAuliffe, the likeliest of liberal bedfellows, have gotten their act together and are taking it on the road. Their goal? According to USA Today, it is to help Democrats “rebuild political power by focusing on a series of governors’ races and redistricting legal battles.”

Democrats, enabled by their media accomplices, are hoping that all eyes remain fixed on Donald Trump and Washington, D.C., while the likes of Pelosi and McAuliffe quietly rack up the air miles visiting deep pocketed donors in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and New York. They are raising money for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, which is run by – RED FLAG ALERT – former Attorney General Eric Holder.

The idea for the NDRC was hatched by Holder and his former boss, Barack Obama. Presumably, the two were alarmed at the progress conservatives were making in the states, with Republicans taking over a majority of the governorships (33 out of 50) and state legislatures (67 of the 98 partisan state legislative chambers).

The problem for Republicans is that 27 of these 33 governorships are up for reelection in 2017 and 2018. These races become all the more important when you realize that the next census will take place in 2020, the results of which will lead to some redistricting. Redistricting that will be overseen by governors and state legislatures.

Cue the Nancy and Terry Show (suggested couple name: Nary). McAuliffe told USA Today, “I don’t care who the president of the United States is, it doesn’t matter in the sense that, if we don’t have governors to stop these horrible maps, they’re going to pass a lot of this stuff at the state level.”

What he’s talking about here is, of course, gerrymandering. When a Democrat-controlled state legislature redraws boundaries, it’s call “redistricting.” When a Republican-controlled state legislature does the same thing, it’s called “gerrymandering.” Just so you know where Terry McAuliffe is coming from.

Democrats love to pretend that they have never benefitted from gerrymandering, but their handiwork is on display in many legislative districts. Take, for instance, Maryland’s 6th congressional district. Maryland’s state legislature has been controlled by Democrats for years, and their legislative district boundaries reflect that. The 6th CD stretches from the populous, suburban, and deeply blue Montgomery County to the less populated, rural, and mostly red Frederick County. These two counties could not be more different, yet they share the same congressman. A Democrat, of course.

Gubernatorial races in Florida, Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania are high on NDRC’s list. Getting those states, all of which voted for Donald Trump, back in line before Election Day 2020 is crucial for Democrats. Says McAuliffe, “If we do not do well with these governor’s races, our party as we know it will be out of the game for a decade.”
