College Admissions Are Racist

Thanks to affirmative action, college admissions really are racist…against Whites and Asians. The Trump administration spoke yesterday about the DOJ filing suit against universities practicing discriminatory admissions practices.  

How Much Affirmative Action Really Effects Admissions

Affirmative action affects students far more than you may think. The primary victim, however, is not White students, but Asian students. Several studies by Princeton University are often cited to show the truly racist practice that is affirmative action.

The study showed that without affirmative action, the acceptance rate for African Americans at top universities. would drop from 33.7 percent to 12.2 percent, almost one-third. Similarly, the acceptance rate for Hispanics would drop from 26.8 percent to 12.9 percent.

To put this into terms of SAT scores, the benefits of being African American or Hispanic are incredible. According to another study from Princeton, when being compared to the average SAT (out of 1600) for an elite university, African Americans have an effective bonus of 230 points, and Hispanics have an average bonus of 185 points.

That 230 point bonus African American applicants effectively receive because of affirmative action policies is enough to bump up their SAT ranking from the 60th percentile to the 90th percentile.

As someone who is part Hispanic, I find this policy incredibly unfair. With a 185 point bonus because of my ethnicity, my SAT score would be well over a perfect score. The opposite effect occurs for Asians, who effectively need to score almost 300 points above African Americans to have the same admissions chances.

How Affirmative Action Creates The Gap

Since most colleges apply affirmative action policies to “underrepresented” ethnicities at their university, these ethnicities are favored in accepted policies to lessen that gap. These preferential admission policies to underrepresented groups are what creates a gap of hundreds of SAT points.

In the spectrum of the most elite universities, this means that actual scores and GPA aren’t important anymore because race is now a much larger factor. When it comes to these factors, African American and Hispanic students have much lower scores than Whites or Asians.

Since they have lower scores, African Americans and Hispanics would typically be admitted less frequently than their White or Asian counterparts. But in order to meet affirmative action policies and diversity requirements, these elite colleges lower their standards for African Americans and Hispanics.

On the other side of the scores, Asians being smart is a stereotype for a reason. Asians are generally a smart group of people who work very hard. As a reward for their hard work, Asians have high GPAs and SAT scores.

Since their scores are higher, Asians should get into elite universities more, right? Nope! Thanks to affirmative action, to prevent Asian students from taking away admission spots from the African Americans and Hispanics required to meet diversity quotas, the standard is raised for them.

How to Solve Affirmative Action

What logical person wouldn’t want to get rid of a practice that lowers standards at college for African Americans and Hispanics and raises them for Asians? By both the liberal definition and the real definition of racism, affirmative action policies are racist.

The way to solve this problem is to get rid of affirmative action as a policy and prevent colleges from creating diversity quotas. Instead of admitting students for the sake of diversity statistics, I would propose the radical notion of admitting students based on their actual qualifications.

Furthermore, the entire race, sex, and gender categories should be removed from college admissions. Similar to how colleges are need-blind in accepting students, meaning your need for financial aid is not considered in your acceptance, admissions should be blind to race, gender, and sex.

I also believe race and gender should be topics applicants are not allowed to write about on their admission essays. Frankly, if your essay is about the “struggle” of growing up as black in a

racist society or growing up as a woman in a sexist society you shouldn’t even be allowed into college because no amount of education can help you.
