Get Comfortable, Because This Is the Chaos the Country Voted For

We are a mere six months into the Trump administration, and chaos is the name of the game. One could also add ‘lack of accomplishment’ and ‘obsession with social media’ as part of that game, too.

Monday’s big news out of the White House had to do with more personnel drama as it was announced that new Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, who was just eleven days into the new role, was leaving. Did he resign, or was he fired after new Chief of Staff John Kelly decided to clean house? It’s doubtful that we’ll ever know. My colleague, Jim Jamitis, wrote about Trump cult camp claims that the whole Scaramucci episode was a burst of requisite leadership from the president himself.

Sure.

The rest of us have whiplash, because we didn’t exactly expect “the Mooch” to be ousted after less than two weeks. We probably didn’t even expect it after Scaramucci’s on-the-record interview with Ryan Lizza of The New Yorker, where Mooch sounded like the frat boy that we all know he is on the inside. We didn’t expect it.

We should have expected it.

In two weeks, Anthony Scaramucci, Reince Priebus, and Sean Spicer have all left/been fired. That’s not adding in the frequent digs from the president himself squarely aimed at Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Entirely unpresidential and disappointing to see from our commander-in-chief? Absolutely.

However, President Trump is eager to make it look as if everything is going just swimmingly. I’m not buying it.

Without a doubt, this administration positively thrives on created chaos. That is more than unfortunate, since such a thing can and does cover up the more pressing issues of the day or week.

But we do have a reality star for a president whose claim to fame was the line “you’re fired!” And, lest we forget, the entire 2016 campaign was one “did that really just happen?” mess after another. Such chaos was so loved by the MAGA crowds that they voted Donald Trump in as our 45th president.

If you’re counting, we have at least 3 1/2 years left of this Donald-fueled disarray. It will not only continue to emanate from the White House, but it will bleed over into the GOP Congress, as it has already.

It may be amusing and headline-grabbing, but it’s not good for the country as a whole. However, the country hurt by such incompetence and unprofessional behavior is the very one that voted for it.
