Lebanese, Syrian Forces Coordinating to Launch Joint Border Operation

An Arab media outlet reported on Saturday that the Lebanese Army is coordinating with its Syrian counterpart to kick off an imminent joint operation to drive terrorists out of mountainous regions at their shared border.

The Arabic-language al-Hadath news quoted the Lebanese media as saying that direct military coordination between the Lebanese and Syrian military commanders has been carried out to pave the ground for a joint anti-ISIL operation in al-Qa’a heights and Ra’as Ba’albak region.

Al-Hadath reported that several meetings have been held between the Lebanese and Syrian military officials in recent days, adding that they have designed a plan for the operation based on which each army has its own land of operation and responsibilities.

In the meantime, the Lebanese artillery units and Air Force have been targeting ISIL’s positions in Ra’as Ba’albak, destroying their command centers and military vehicles.

Relevant reports said on Friday that the Lebanese Army troops deployed at mountainous regions at border with Syria were to kick off a large-scale operation against ISIL-held territories in Arsal Barrens after Al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at or the Levant Liberation Board) was forced to leave the region for Syria’s Idlib under the heavy attacks of Hezbollah fighters.

The sources reported that the Lebanese Army was set to launch a new offensive in Eastern Lebanon that would target ISIL’s last positions in the Ra’as Ba’albak area of the province.

Meantime, well-informed sources said that Hezbollah moved many of its troops from the region in order to allow the Lebanese Army to establish control over the border.

Reports say Syrian Kurdish forces which are backed by the United States have made significant advances against Daesh terrorists in Raqqah. The Syrian Democratic Forces – as they’re called – are believed to be close to seizing full control of the southern parts of the city – which is the defacto capital of Daesh. But that, of course, may not have been possible without the direct help of the United States. These images show how the US army has blatantly involved itself in the war in Syria. That would sooner or later draw the criticisms of the international community. And beyond that, it is the consequences of US military deployment to Syria – not only for Syria but also for its neighbors – which is increasingly becoming a source of concern.
