More Turkey-Backed Militants Killed in Exchange of Fire with Kurdish Fighters in Northern Syria

A number of fighters affiliated to the Turkish Army were killed and wounded in sporadic clashes with Kurdish units of the SDF in Northern Aleppo on Wednesday.

The Kurdish-language Hawar news agency reported that the Turkish army and their affiliated militants intensified their movements in a region between the town of Mare’a and the village of Harbal near al-Shahba and shelled the villages in the area.

The news agency further added that artillery units of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) the Turkey-backed militants’ positions and movements in response to their assaults, destroying three tanks and killing four.

Also, the Turkey-backed militants’ mortar units opened heavy fire on the villages of Mar’anaz, Shawarqah and Ein Daqnah, added the report.

The Arabic-language al-Hadath news reported on Tuesday that a large cargo of Syrian-Russian military equipment, the Syrian army units and the Russian military police entered Tal Rifat, a town in Northern Aleppo that is under the control of the SDF.

Al-Hadath further said that the move was aimed at preventing the Ankara-backed Euphrates Shield Operation forces or Turkish forces to advance in the region.

In the meantime, Mustafa Sijeri, the head of the political bureau of Liwa al-Mo’atasem affiliated to the Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA), said that the Kurdish units asked Russia to send its forces to Northern Aleppo in reaction to Washington’s plan to hand over the region to Liwa al-Mo’atasem.

Sijeri further said that Russia pushed the plan of delivering control of 11 towns and settlement in Northern Aleppo to FSA into complete failure.

ISIL Calls for Deal to Evacuate Al-Huweija without Clashes with Iraqi Army

Emir of the ISIL terrorist group in the town of al-Huweija has called on Baghdad officials for talks over their safe exit from the town, an Arab media outlet reported Wednesday.

The Arabic-language al-Sumeriyeh news quoted a local well-informed source in Kirkuk province as saying that ISIL’s emir in al-Huweija has asked for talks with the Iraqi government over militants’ safe exit from the town in Central Iraq.

The source further told al-Sumeriyeh that the emir’s request has fueled fresh waves of riot and unrest among the ISIL terrorists, adding that some of the terrorists in al-Huweija have laid down arms and left their positions.

The demand came after the Iraqi army captured Mosul and the nearby town of Tal Afar near the border with Syria.

Mosul’s collapse effectively marked the end of ISIL’s “caliphate”, but the group remains in control of territory on both sides of the Syrian-Iraqi border, and of Hawija, a city between Mosul and Baghdad that Iraqi officials say is the next target. The group is also retreating in Syria, where it is facing separate offensives by the allied forces of Iran, Syria, Russia and Hezbollah.
