New Poll: Trump Supporters Handing Virginia to the Democrats?

The Trump movement says it’s anti-leftist, but so far in Virginia it looks like they’re more interested in sinking a Republican than beating the Democrat!

Early on, after Ed Gillespie won the primary in Virginia, setting him up to challenge Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam in the race to replace term-limited Governor Terry McAuliffe, it seemed like he’d have his changes. Gillespie just barely lost statewide when he ran for Senate, and has the ability to win the moderate DC exurbs, while Northam is an opportunist who voted for Bush.

But apart from one tie that now looks like a fluke, the polling since the primary has been terrible for Gillespie. He can’t even break 40%, despite hitting 48% in 2014. What’s changed? Corey Stewart and the Trump movement are having a temper tantrum.

Stewart wanted to be the nominee, and he’s a hard core Trump supporter. Says the Woodbridge Patch:

“There is one word you will never hear from me, and that’s ‘unity,’ ” Stewart told cheering supporters. “We’ve been backing down too long. We’ve been backing down too long in defense of our culture and our heritage and our culture.”

“. . .This isn’t old-style politics anymore. I just can’t tell 155,000 folks to go ahead and vote for Ed despite the fact that he’s not a fighter.”

The Republican Party of Virginia now has a fifth column within it, seeking to elect the Democrat in order to punish Republicans who reject Donald Trump and the white nationalist movement that just killed a woman in Charlottesville Virginia.

So the newest poll has Northam leading 43-36, a 7 point lead in line with recent polling. The Trump movement appears to be sitting out just as Stewart threatened, holding Gillespie back, ensuring a Democrat victory to back a tax-and-spend socialist agenda in Richmond.
