New Poll: Virginia Voters Are Asked Who’s to Blame for Charlottesville Violence

While the world debates on the events of Charlottesville, a new poll from The MassINC Polling Group narrowed the focus to Virginia voters, those whose state became the center of what has exploded into nationwide uproar.

According to the poll, the blame for Charlottesville is pretty well centered.

Forty percent of Virginia voters polled feel the white nationalists are to blame for the chaos, that day.

Another 41 percent, however, feel the blame is equally divided between the white nationalists and the counter-protesters.

Just 6 percent think the counter-protesters should be blamed for the incidents earlier this month.

Only 15 percent of Republican respondents blame the white nationalist marchers for the violence, compared to 65 percent who think both the white nationalist marchers and counter-protesters are equally to blame.

How did President Trump handle the situation? Not well. Only 30 percent approved of Trump’s response to the violence and turmoil.

Pollsters also found that only 28 percent of respondents think Confederate monuments should be removed from public property, compared to a majority, 51 percent, that thinks they should stay.

The monuments. Remember them? It was the Robert E. Lee statue that was supposedly the purpose of the rally, to begin with.

And I’ll go on record – again – as saying that’s how these issues should be handled. Let the citizens vote on what happens with these monuments. They shouldn’t be removed by lawless mobs, nor politicians looking to virtue signal.

The poll consisted of 508 registered Virginia voters, and was conducted from August 15 to August 19. It has a 4.4 margin of error.
