Syria: Terrorists in Deir Ezzur Surprised by Russian Navy Operation

ISIL terrorists in the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur were taken by surprise when their positions came under heavy attack by the Russian Navy deployed in the Black Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

A Russian Black Sea Fleet frigate struck an area near the town of al-Shoula held by ISIL terrorists mostly from Russia and CIS countries with Kalibr cruise missiles, the Russian Defense Ministry stated.

“On September 5, the Admiral Essen frigate of the Russian Black Sea Fleet that has been carrying out missions (…) in the Mediterranean launched strikes with sea-based Kalibr cruise missiles on the ISIL terrorist group’s targets near Deir Ezzur. Kalibr cruise missiles were launched on verified ISIL’s targets based on information received by means of reconnaissance from several channels,” the ministry said.

The Russian ministry added that dozens of terrorists were killed, as well as ISIL’s command posts, a communications center, a facility repairing terrorists’ armored vehicles, arms and ammunition depots were destroyed in the vicinity of Deir Ezzur, adding that the effectiveness of the missile strike was confirmed by UAV reconnaissance.

The missile strike thwarted terrorists’ plans to regroup and boost their positions near Deir Ezzur, which has been besieged by the ISIL since 2013.

Damascus forces supported by Russian warplanes are currently trying to lift a years-long blockade of the provincial capital Deir Ezzur. Moscow says that the success of the operation would amount to a strategic defeat of the terrorist group in Syria.

The ‘Admiral Essen’ is one of Russia’s most modern warships, the second of the Admiral Grigorovich class to set sail. It carries 8 vertically-launched Kalibr cruise missiles and previously fired them at ISIL forces in May and June.

Earlier reports said that the Syrian Air Force targeted a long convoy of ISIL’s vehicles carrying arms, ammunition and fresh fighters towards the terrorist group’s positions near Brigade 137 base in Western Deir Ezzur, inflicting major damage on the column.

The army aircraft carried out several combat sorties over ISIL’s movements near the salt mine near the town of al-Tabni in the Western countryside of Deir Ezzur, destroying most of the vehicles and killing a number of terrorists.

The ISIL intended to transfer the convoy of forces, arms and ammunition to the group’s positions near Brigade 137 base.

Also, the fighter jets pounded ISIL’s defense lines in the villages of al-Baqaliyeh and Ayyash, imposing heavy casualties on the militants.

In the meantime, the Syrian Army troops clashed fiercely with a group of ISIL terrorists and repelled their attack on the government forces’ positions South of T-2 pumping station in the Southeastern part of Deir Ezzur, killing a large number of terrorists.

Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Repels Terrorists’ Attacks on Gov’t Positions

The Syrian army soldiers repelled terrorists’ attacks on their positions in
Hama province after hours of clashes, inflicting major losses on them.

The terrorists’ offensives to capture the government forces’ positions in
Hama were fended off by the strong defense of the Syrian military men.

Meantime, the Syrian army and popular forces continued their military advances in
other parts of Syria, including Deir Ezzur, over the past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in Syria’s key provinces.

Hama

The Syrian Army troops, backed up by the country’s Air Force, repelled
ISIL’s heavy offensive in Eastern Hama on Monday, inflicting major
losses on the terrorists.

The army men engaged in fierce clashes
with ISIL that stormed the pro-government forces’ positions in the
village of Jarouh from their positions North of Aqayrabat and managed to
fend off their attack.

ISIL suffered heavy casualties in the clashes.

Also, the army aircraft pounded the defense lines of ISIL in the villages of
al-Hardaneh, Tal Admeh and al-Asafereh near Aqayrabat, killing and
wounding a number of terrorists and destroying their equipment.

Earlier reports said that the army soldiers stormed ISIL’s positions in Eastern
Hama and took back the village of Mas’ada, Rasm Qanbar farm and its
surrounding regions after fortifying positions in the newly-captured
town of Aqayrabat.

The army men further managed to advance to
the regions near the village of Hamadah Omar that is one of the
important villages still controlled by the ISIL.

In the meantime, Human Rights Watch reported that 120 terrorists have been
killed and tens of others have been injured in clashes with the army
units in Eastern Hama in recent days.

Deir Ezzur

The Syrian army forces continued operations to break the terrorists’ siege on Deir Ezzur, regaining control of a new region.

The army soldiers engaged in heavy clashes with the ISIL terrorists in
Western Deir Ezzur, retaking control of an asphalt workshop in the
region.

According to military sources, the army troops are just
3km away from ISIL’s main lines around Deir Ezzur, specially Brigade 137
in the Western parts of the city.

Earlier on Monday, the Syrian army troops, backed up by the Russian Air Force, continued to advance
against ISIL in the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur in several flanks
despite massive redeployment of ISIL’s fighters and military hardware
from other parts of Iraq and Syria to Deir Ezzur, military sources
confirmed.

The sources said that the army soldiers drove ISIL
out of the towns of Kobajeb and al-Shoula and several strategic hills,
pushing towards Brigade 137 base in the Western outskirt of Deir Ezzur
city.

They added that the army men captured al-Kharateh energy
field North of Tar Tarfawi region in the Western countryside of Deir
Ezzur city, deploying less than 20km away from Tal (hill) al-Sonouf near
the city airbase.

A large number of ISIL terrorists have left
behind their arms and equipment and have fled the battlefield amid rapid
advances of the army.

The sources went on to say that the army
forces have reached areas 10km away from Brigade 137 base, adding that
the army is on the threshold of lifting ISIL’s siege on Deir Ezzur after
over three years.

Damascus

The Syrian Army troops continued to hit the positions of Al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at
or the Levant Liberation Board) in Eastern Ghouta and managed to seize
control over a passageway that connects Jobar to Ein Terma region.

The army men imposed control over Harmaleh passageway between Jobar and Ein
Terma that was one of the main supply lines of Al-Nusra in the Eastern
countryside of the capital.

Also, the army soldiers pushed Al-Nusra back from several buildings and positions South of Ein Terma
parallel to al-Mat,halaq al-Janoubi region.

The army units further detonated a tunnel under a network of tunnels that had lined
terrorists’ positions East of al-Mat’halaq to the depth of Jobar,
killing tens of terrorists.

Iraqi Popular Forces Ward off ISIL’s Offensives at Border with Syria

The Iraqi volunteer forces of Hashd al-Shaabi repelled two heavy attacks of ISIL near the country’s border with Syria on Tuesday, killing and wounding a large number of terrorists.

Artillery and missile units of Hashd al-Shaabi targeted heavily the movements of a group of ISIL in al-Mas’ada region near the border with Syria, and repelled their attack.

Also, the Hashd al-Shaabi troops managed to fend off another attack by the ISIL near the village of Tal Hajem near the borderline with Syria.

ISIL suffered heavy casualties in the failed attacks.

A local source said earlier today that around fifty ISIL militants were killed in Iraqi Army’s airstrikes in Northeast of Diyala.

“Basateen al-Mekheisa and the surrounding villages located in al-Waqf basin on the outskirts of abu Sayda town, Northeast of Diyala, were shelled five times over the past two months,” Awwad al-Rubai’e, head of the security committee of Abu Sayda council said, Al Ghad reported.

“Most of the airstrikes were accurate. They targeted pivotal havens of ISIL militants and sleeper cells,” he said. “The available estimates show that the total number of militants killed due to the air raids, last of which was on Sunday, reached around fifty members.”

Rubai’e added that Waqf basin became an unsafe shelter for the militants due to ongoing operations by security services as well as the aerial bombardment.
