Nikki Haley to North Korea: You Won’t Like Us When We’re Angry

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley is increasingly proving her skill with international relations, at times gently encouraging world leaders to understand the role the United States plays in world politics, and at other times adopting a forceful posture and letting terror regimes know she backs up her soft words with a big stick.

Her response to North Korea — following another ICBM launch by the rogue Asian nation — is an example of the latter. The ambassador posted a snippet of a longer speech she gave at the U.N. to her Twitter account Wednesday:

Within her longer remarks, Haley makes it clear that if there is retaliation for North Korea’s refusal to reign in their aggression, the fault lies directly with a choice Kim Jong Un is making to seek war with the U.S.

And she reminds Kim that it won’t be the U.S. acting alone.

“The nations of the world have it within their power to further isolate, diminish and, God willing, reverse the dangerous course of the North Korean regime. We must all do our part to make that happen,” Haley said.

It’s brilliant diplomacy, both in her choice of words — the “regime” will be destroyed; not the nation and not the people — and in her pointed invocation of allies with an interest in, once and for all, putting a stop to Kim and his war games.

If Kim had any doubt that Haley and the U.S. are losing patience with his foolishness, the ambassador’s speech Wednesday should have cleared things up for him. What he chooses to do next — apart from bragging (see Fox News link above) — may lead to very different leadership in North Korea sooner than anyone suspected.
