Rand Paul Gives His First Interview Since Returning to Work

Senator Rand Paul hobbled his way back to work on Monday. Good for him!

In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Senator Paul spoke about the attack that left him with six broken ribs and a damaged lung.

“From my perspective, I’m not really too concerned about what someone’s motive is. I’m just concerned that I was attacked from the back and somebody broke six of my ribs and gave me a damaged lung where at least for now I have trouble speaking and breathing and now I’ve hurt for 10 days,” the senator said after arriving back in Washington for a week of critical votes.

He’s got every right to be angry and to demand justice.

It was November 3 when Paul was hit from behind by Rene Boucher, a 59 year old retired doctor and registered Democrat.

Paul was doing yardwork, had earplugs in, and had no idea he was about to be attacked, according to reports. It was an unprovoked attack that Boucher’s attorney has tried to write off as a simple dispute over lawn care.

Frankly, that doesn’t help Boucher’s case. If he’s so unhinged that he’d attack somebody over lawn care, he needs a nice, long stay in a place where his contact with the outside world is limited.

That Boucher was initially only charged with fourth degree assault and released on a $7,500 bond is ridiculous.

The senator continued:

“Really if you told me he was doing it for some noble cause to feed starving children somewhere, there is no motive. There is no motive that would justify hitting somebody from behind and breaking their ribs and damaging their lungs, so no, there is no justification for something like that,” he said, pausing often to catch his breath.

The two-term senator said that he hasn’t talked to Boucher in a decade. “My first encounter was basically being hit in the back,” he said. “We’ve never had words over anything, we’ve never had a dispute or discussion or words,” added Paul, who was at the Republicans’ Congressional Baseball Game practice when members under fire by a gunman angry at the GOP.

This attack, in fact, brings to mind that June ballfield attack in Alexandria, which left Rep. Steve Scalia seriously wounded.

Where are the celebrities calling for new legislation to control liberals, by the way?

Senator Paul didn’t feel he could say much, because this is now, apparently, a federal case (GOOD!) and there will be criminal prosecution.

Asked about his recovery, he tried a bit of humor. “I would assume it gets better,” he said, adding, “I’m about 10 to 11 days out. Physically I’m in less pain. I just am still having trouble completing sentences because I have to get enough air to expel so there is a little difficulty going still with breathing.”

Take your time, Senator. Get well, then do your part to make sure this maniac gets the punishment due for his crime.
