Never Fear – If Things Go South, Donald Trump’s Kiefer Sutherland Is Standing By

For the State of the Union address, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will be Kiefer Sutherland.

That is to say, while the State of the Union address is going on, Perdue will not be present. He’ll be squirreled away in a secure place, in the event there’s an attack that takes out the president, the vice president, and all of Congress in attendance, leaving the need for someone to step up and fill the role of president and leader of the United States.

For every State of the Union or presidential address to a joint session of Congress, a cabinet member is chosen to sit out as a precaution for an incident such as an attack on the Capitol.

Veterans Affairs secretary David Shulkin was the designated survivor for Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress in 2017.

It’s an interesting concept. It’s at least interesting enough to make a TV drama series out of, and to give Kiefer Sutherland the lead role.

It would likely take some widescale catastrophe to get Perdue that close to the Oval Office. The Secretary of Agriculture is ninth in line to move into the role of president, should something happen, whether an attack or a major scandal were to take out the president.
