Virginia Draws a Name from a Hat, and the 2018 House Majority Is…

After Republicans got wiped out in the 2017 Virginia elections, the House majority hinged on one tied race to be decided by drawing a name from a hat. That name was drawn today.

Republicans held a 2/3 supermajority after the 2015 House of Delegates elections in Virginia, but got crushed in the 2017 election. It was so bad, the majority hinged on one race. Democrat Shelly Simonds and Republican David Yancey were tied in the 94th district. If Simonds won, the House would be tied at 50. If Yancey won, Republicans would hold a 51-49 majority.

Yancey’s name was pulled from the hat, and Republicans have squeaked by with the smallest possible majority. What luck for the GOP!
