CNN Picks Up the Most Important Fact About the President Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast

Welp. We should have seen this coming.

Yesterday, President Trump gave remarks at the 66th annual National Prayer Breakfast. Unlike most members of the punditry, I am singularly unacquainted with either the state of Trump’s soul or his prospects for salvation so I can report he said some nice Mother-and-apple-pie, American-style Christian platitudes:

Our rights are not given to us by man; our rights come from our Creator. (Applause.) No matter what, no Earthly force can take those rights away. (Applause.) That is why the words “Praise be to God” are etched atop the Washington Monument, and those same words are etched into the hearts of our people.

So today, we praise God for how truly blessed we are to be American. (Applause.) Across our land, we see the splendor of God’s creation. Throughout our history, we see the story of God’s providence. And in every city and town, we see the Lord’s grace all around us, through a million acts of kindness, courage and generosity. We love God.

We see the Lord’s grace in the service members who risk their lives for our freedom. We see it in the teachers who work tirelessly for their students, and the police who sacrifice for our communities — and sacrifice they do. (Applause.)

And we see the Lord’s grace in the moms and dads who work two and three jobs to give their children the chance for a better and much more prosperous and happier life.

As the Bible tells us, for we are God’s handiwork, created in Jesus Christ to do good works. America’s heroes rise to this calling. In their selfless deeds, they reveal the beauty and goodness of the human soul.

And some good stuff:

When Americans are able to live by their convictions, to speak openly of their faith, and to teach their children what is right, our families thrive, our communities flourish, and our nation can achieve anything at all. (Applause.)

But, of course, that isn’t a story. This is CNN’s take:

That number would be 60 of 3,000 attendees.

The spike in the number of Russians attending the event compared to last year comes amid multiple ongoing investigations into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia as well as continued fallout from Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The National Prayer Breakfast is organized by the Fellowship Foundation, a nonprofit religious organization designed to bring together leaders from the political, religious and business realm, on behalf of the US Congress.

A. Larry Ross, a spokesman at the Fellowship Foundation, told CNN, “I can confirm that this year, the Breakfast will be attended by more than 3,800 individuals representing over 130 countries and territories around the world. Approximately 55 are coming from Russia, including a group of 35 young professionals — millennial doctors, lawyers and business leaders in their 20s and 30s — invited out of a context of relationship and faith.”

Alex Jones is no more happy about this than is CNN.

This stuff is crazy. We are in a territory that George Washington warned us about:

The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave.
