In a Contest Between Trump and the FBI, a New Poll Calls the Winner of Public Opinion

Trump and his loyalists are so desperate to tear down anyone, or any institution that is perceived to have crossed him.

Such an ambitious would-be despot.

The current target would be the FBI, and perhaps to a lesser extent, the Justice Department.

With busy bees like Representatives Devin Nunes and Matt Gaetz, along with the American Pravda, Fox News, desperately working towards that goal, you have to wonder how much success they’re having.

According to a new Marist poll, it only seems to be going over with Republicans, but Americans, as a whole, are not impressed with the theater being carried out by the administration.

When asked who they believe/trust more, between the FBI and President Trump, 66 percent of those polled stand on the side of our nation’s premiere law enforcement agency. Trump gets 24 percent, when asked to choose between the two.

Among those who identify as Trump supporters, 61 percent said they would side with the president during a dispute with the FBI and 23 percent would believe the FBI.

“If the White House was banking on the release of the Nunes memo to flip public opinion against the FBI, that has not happened,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. “In fact, the Nunes memo becomes just another page in a lengthy book on the investigation.”

I’m actually shocked that 23 percent of Trump’s supporters would back the FBI in a dispute. They must not be true MAGA.

The hope of Trump, possibly a thought put in his head by the Renfield to his Count Dracula, Nunes, is that a 4 page memo would be enough to bring down the FBI and DOJ, thus ending the Russia probe that has haunted his presidency since the first day.

That’s just not happening. The memo was flimsy, offering nothing to match the weeks of buildup.

Trump still crowed that the memo had vindicated him, only to have both Democrats and Republicans come out behind him and say otherwise.

The narrative pushed was that the FBI was biased and out to get Trump.

But 71 percent of Americans polled do not believe the FBI is biased against the president and is instead trying to do its job. Twenty-three percent think the bureau takes issue with Trump.

Among Republican voters, nearly half, 49 percent, think the FBI is biased against the Trump administration, while 43 percent think the bureau is trying to fulfill its mission.

Partisan idiocy.

The FBI are not going to be toppled by this. According to the poll, 60 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of them. Only 28 percent have a problem with the FBI.

There’s no corresponding poll of those 28 percent to determine how many are running meth labs and how many have MAGA stickers on the back of their vehicles.

(Don’t @ me. I didn’t say anything about them overlapping.)

This poll had 1,012 respondents and was conducted from February 5 to February 7. It has a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.
