Michigan GOP Official Can No Longer Live a Lie (I Understand)

I get it. I do.

It’s the same reason I walked away.

People of good conscience are abandoning a party that has embraced Trump and the cancerous sickness of “Trumpism.”

One such castaway is the now former chairman of the Republican Party in Bay County, Michigan.

He says he can no longer remain silent about Trump.

“I have not seen a leader, I’ve only seen more of the same,” Brandon DeFrain, who has served in his post since 2014, wrote in a Facebook post, according to MLive.

That monstrosity of a budget shocked a lot of folks that way.

For others, it’s just how hateful the climate in America has become.

Bemoaning the nasty rhetoric and racism in the streets and on social media, he pushed on:

“I’m tired of attempting to defend a machine that does not defend the people I love,” he wrote.

DeFrain said he hasn’t talked much about the current state of political affairs in the past because he “believed in giving our leaders a chance.”

“Since I’ve been involved in politics I’ve spent my time learning about the passion on both sides. I have found myself torn,” he wrote.

“This leads to where my mind is today. I do not support the actions coming from the White House.”

I’ve actually known people who were vehemently against Trump, even after he won the nomination, prayed and spoke prophecy against him, but who won positions within the party, themselves, and on a dime, dropped everything to become his ardent hypocrites cheerleaders.

This seems to be the opposite of that.

“Since I’ve been involved in politics I’ve spent my time learning about the passion on both sides. I have found myself torn,” he wrote.

“This leads to where my mind is today. I do not support the actions coming from the White House.”

He also pointed out how partisan politics just leads people to hate each other.

“I am resigning from my affiliation with ALL political parties so that I may be better aligned with my own values,” he wrote.

Principles over politics. A man after my own heart.

“Those values that represent all people, faith, gender, class, thought, race and every other denomination on our planet. I care about every human on this earth and I desire to live in a way that pursues freedom for all.”

It’s a lofty proclamation. It’s also admirable.

And no, DeFrain isn’t some crackpot. His colleagues agree that he has been a productive member of the party.

“Brandon was excellent for us and he did move us forward,” David Scholl, vice chairman of the party, said.

“In this last presidential election, he was very instrumental in getting the word out and helping the party have a presence in Bay County.”

In fact, Bay County went to Trump with 53 percent of the vote.

DeFrain appeared on NBC News to endorse Trump in the lead up to the election, so I wonder if that moment ever replays in his mind?

The county Republican Party members will meet on Tuesday for an emergency meeting to replace DeFrain.
