Trump Blasts Into Experts Ranking of American Presidents

President Trump’s starry-eyed, adoring devotees will tell you he’s the greatest president since Reagan – or even better!

Their devotion seems a bit misplaced, considering he’s only been in office a bit over a year and his actual accomplishments, to date, are still a tad thin.

Apparently, a year is enough to warrant a spot on the 2018 Presidents and Executive Politics Presidential Greatness Survey. The survey is among current and recent members of the  Presidents and Executive Politics Section of the American Political Science Association, and they rate every president on a scale of 0-100, based on “overall greatness.”

The number one spot is held by a Republican – Abraham Lincoln – with an overall score of 95.03. This is the same position he held in 2014.

In fact, the top 7 spots have not changed from 2014 to 2018.

Following Lincoln is George Washington (92.59), FDR (89.09), Teddy Roosevelt (81.39), Jefferson (79.54), Truman (75.15), and Eisenhower (74.03).

Rounding out the top 10 is Obama at number 8 (71.13 – and up from number 18 in 2014), number 9 Reagan (69.24 – up from number 11 in 2014), and LBJ at number 10 (69.06 – up from 12 in 2014).

Other interesting moves on the chart would be Bill Clinton in the number 13 spot (64.25). That is a slide for him from the number 8 spot in 2014.

George H.W. Bush (60.9) falls just behind JFK at number 17, and that’s holding steady since 2014. JFK (61.86) actually slid from 14 to 16.

George W. Bush (40.42) is gaining a new appreciation, rising from number 35 to number 30.

So what about Trump – the MAGA crew’s proclaimed king of kings and president of presidents? If he’s not number 1, and he’s not in the top 10, where did he rank?

Well, with 12.34, he falls dead last, 3 points below President Buchanan.

That would be the Buchanan that influenced the Dred Scott case, saying African Americans could never be citizens, alienated his own party, sided with slavery advocates, and did nothing about the simmering tensions that eventually led to seven states seceding and forming the Confederacy.

Trump should take heart, however. Even Warren Harding, whose administration was riddled with corruption managed to score 25.26, and pulled his rank up this year to 39 from 42.

I’ll go further.

Just as I reminded Trump’s acolytes that they can hardly call him the greatest president ever, based on a single year and their own delusions, I think in fairness, deeming him the worst of all, based on a single year might be a bit harsh.

I mean, let’s be honest, here. These survey respondents, the Presidents and Executive Politics Section of the American Political Science Association, put Obama over Reagan.

It could be the breakdown, actually.

Fifty-seven percent of the respondents were Democrats, while 27 percent were Independents, 12.7 percent were Republican, and the rest were “other.”

So was this a partisan thing?

When questioned about their ideological leanings, 32.5 regarded themselves as “ideologically liberal.” There were 24.1 percent who considered themselves moderate. Only 5.4 percent identified as ideologically conservative, and another 12 percent said they were “somewhat conservative.”

Let’s look at it this way: He’s already at the bottom. He can only go up, right?
