GIRL POWER: Charlotte Pence is Killing John Oliver With Kindness

Vice President Mike Pence’s daughter continues to own Last Week Tonight host (and comedian to some) John Oliver over his cynical mockery of her just-released children’s book written about her pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo.

As Brandon Morse wrote at this site a few days ago, Oliver’s mockery of Charlotte’s charity effort for children, Marlon Bundo’s Day in the Life of the Vice President, took the form of a children’s book by Oliver that was pretty much the same book Charlotte had written. Except Oliver’s bunny is gay.

Get it?

Because all good progressives know in their souls Mike Pence doesn’t like gay people. You can even prove them wrong and they’ll still know it. And that incorruptible knowledge — even if it’s wrong — gives them the latitude to make fun of a young lady as she attempts to do something genuinely sweet for charity because she’s related to Mike Pence.

Get it?

Brandon points out that Oliver’s mockery was met with grace by young Charlotte, as she extolled the virtues of having “two bunny books for charity” (because Oliver’s book sales will go to support an AIDS-related charity (which is, less than being a genuine act, is probably just a continuation of the jab) while Charlotte’s will go to a support group for children with cancer). And while Charlotte obviously has a sweet spirit, Brandon points out that Oliver has a the spirit of a 10-year-old bully.

Oliver’s attack on Pence’s daughter’s book is, frankly, kind of lazy. His hate for Pence is so great that he and his team created something that reminds me of an elementary school insult, and thought it was funny enough…to be fit for release.

Now Charlotte has buried that candy-coated sword to the hilt in the hide of John Oliver as it was reported Wednesday that she’s put her money where her mouth is.

“I have bought his book,” said the author of “Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President.”

“He’s giving proceeds of the book to charity, and we’re also giving proceeds of our book to charity, so I really think that we can all get behind it,” Pence told ITK on Wednesday.

“It doesn’t have to be divisive,” said Charlotte Pence, 24. “I think that everybody can come together over Marlon.”

Charlotte says she really does want to support the charities Oliver’s book proceeds will go to — “I really mean that,” she said — and so she’s done her part to help.

Your move Oliver. I mean, your move if you want to continue to pick on a sweetheart of a young lady who’s only trying to brighten up the world and who keeps making you look like a 14 carat jackass just by staying true to the spirit of her pet bunny and the innocent joy he inspires.

But I wouldn’t recommend it.
