Haley to Russia: The International Community Will Not Roll Over

Following the announcement Monday by the Trump administration that they would expel 60 Russian intelligence officers from the United States — a move taken by nearly 20 nations around the world in a unified attempt to deal with Russia’s increasingly bad actions — U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told Fox News that the U.S. is not going to “roll over and let them get away with this.”

Haley, discussing an announcement Monday that the U.S. would expel 60 Russian diplomats, said it is important that the U.S. and the international community refuse to allow the Russian government to get away with its involvement in poisoning Sergei Skripal, a Russian defector and current British citizen who was a spy for the United Kingdom. The attack was carried out with a Russian chemical weapon, leading President Donald Trump and other world leaders to condemn Russia’s actions.

“When you do something that’s unacceptable, you pay the price for it,” Haley said. “What the international community wants to see is that Russia steps up and acts like everyone else in the international community.”

Haley also gave an impromptu interview outside her U.N. office in New York where she decried the growing “bad judgment” on the part of the Russians, reiterating her desire to see Moscow step up and begin to act in the same responsible manner as all other peaceful nations within the international community.

Russia stands accused of the March poisoning of British spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, who remain in critical condition following a nerve agent attack during a shopping trip in Salisbury. The agent used, Novichok, is known to have been produced in Russia, and some reports indicate that Moscow has been stockpiling the poison.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has categorically blamed Russia for the poisoning and nations that have undertaken the expulsion of Russian agents and diplomats are doing so as a show of solidarity with the United Kingdom.
