Erdogan threatens to expand military operations to N. Iraq

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that there could be a “second Olive Branch” military operation in the Kurdish-held parts of Iraq, while addressing his supporters in Ankara, Monday.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish President (Turkish): “We have told the central government that there is a process of establishing a second Qandil. Where is this second Qandil [village in Iraq]? Sinjar [village in Iraqi Kurdistan]. If you can handle this situation than handle it, if you cannot we can enter Sinjar in one night suddenly and we clean [up] those PKK elements. [APPLAUSE] If we are allies, if we are brothers you should provide the necessary facilities to us.

We told the previous Iraqi central governments too, if you cannot finish the PKK here let us to do that, let us clean [up] that PKK there too. They said that they are going to call you if we have a problem here, we did not receive any calls since. Our Prime Minister meets with them, we met with them but there is no result yet. But, if this continue any longer, then there could be a second Olive Branch there.”

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish President (Turkish): “Now we will continue this process until we entirely eliminate this corridor, including in Manbij, Ayn al-Arab, Tel Abyad, Ras al-Ayn and Qamishli.”
