What does it mean? Our First People are still living in primitive conditions on some reserves without access to clean drinking water. Our children are still committing suicide. Some of our people are homeless and actually living in the bush in some areas of Canada in winter. Our young people are being murdered and their killers are being acquitted by juries comprised of all whites. The fact that the lands of the First Nations People were stolen from them when the first European set foot on Turtle Island and began to exterminate as many aboriginal people as they could, is old news. How can anything begin to compensate them for all they have suffered and continue to suffer even today?
Of course our leader has his plate pretty much full making sure his socks are the correct colours, that we are using gender neutral speech, and that his choice of dress when visiting foreign countries makes an impact (mostly embarrassing for many of us). I rest my case, perhaps the Russians will let me emigrate to Russia.
