President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi: Egypt’s Glorious Journey Goes On

For the past several months the country of Pharaohs was drawn into the atmosphere of presidential elections. Cairo, Alexandria, Suez and other major cities supported the current President. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi secured his second term in office after he has been re-elected with 97 percent of votes.
As a Defense Minister, el-Sisi did the will of people, who demanded the resignation of the Muslim Brotherhood regime, headed by Muhammad Morsi, in early July 2013. Then 30 million Egyptians took to the streets in protest against the political Islamization of the country performed by Morsi and his allies. The military council under the leadership of el-Sisi took a decision to arrest Morsi and several high-ranking Muslim Brotherhood leaders and to prepare the country for the new presidential elections.
While running for President in 2014, el-Sisi promised to serve people’s interests. Thus, he got the support and love of his nation. Youth organizations collected millions of signatures in his support within months. Particular support was provided to him by the influential family of the second Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
Following the presidential election victory, Field Marshal el-Sisi took office at an extremely difficult time. So, what has he done for his first presidential term since 2014 to 2018? Why have the people of Egypt unconditionally elected him as a president for the next four years?
Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi is openly talking about the necessity of resolving most accurate political, economic and social problems. Cuts in public expenditure and resolution of energy problems are the primary tasks.
From the outset of his term, the Field Marshal called officials to cut expenditures and donated half of his salary for the development of the state’s economy. Later a number of ministers followed the example of the President.
The solution of the social problems related to improving living conditions and launching new strategic projects that could give impetus to Egyptian economic as well as creating jobs for Egyptians has become the main challenge for el-Sisi.
Various programs for building social housing both in large cities and in small towns have been actively developing in Egypt since mid-2014. According to Egypt’s Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouli, the number of social housing units which have already been built or are still under construction reached almost 2 million.
In terms of the major strategic projects to return the economic power of the largest Arab country the construction and launching the second Suez Canal waterway should be mentioned. It was opened on August 6, 2015, and contributed to increasing the capacity of the canal from 49 to 97 ships per day. This fact eventually strengthened the poor Egyptian economy.
The creation of its own nuclear power station in the settlement of al-Dabaa became the second strategic project. The agreement on its creation with Moscow was signed on November 19, 2015. It is expected that this station will be composed of four 1,200 MW power-generation units of a new generation.
And yet, uniting the Egyptian nation is the greatest achievement of el-Sisi. For the four years of his first presidential term he managed to bring people together, reconcile Muslims and Christians, and establish dialogue between the nation and the government. Certainly, he has so much to do for the improvement of the standard of living in the country, and the Egyptians fully trust him.
There are reasons to hope that after the reelection he will continue Egypt’s glorious journey.
