This Is Perhaps the Saddest Tweet I’ve Ever Read
Friends, there is no easy way to put it: Some people have lost their minds since 2016.
I mean, we cover it every day here at RedState, and it is frankly absurd how far into orbit the election of Donald Trump has launched these folks.
Today, in fact, we have what is arguably the saddest tweet I have ever read. It’s the kind of tweet that makes you wonder if a person has just checked out for the next 2-6 years.
When Obama left the White House in a helicopter that horrible day, I had the impression our true father was leaving & the nation was stuck with a stepfather who was going to rape us. Now I increasingly believe that the media is the mother who won’t stand up for us & defy him.

I just… I don’t know how to help people like this.
First of all, if you’re taking politics this seriously, you need to log off for a while. It’s just not healthy. Sure, Donald Trump isn’t the best choice for President – something we’ve discussed at length here – but he is not the end of the world.
The fact of the matter is that politicians are rarely so earth-shattering that they are going to destroy us all. Donald Trump certainly will not. Someone whose mind changes that much is never going to commit to a path of destruction for that long.
Secondly, how much attention are you paying to the media if you think they are not “standing up” to him? Every story they run it seems has some anti-Trump angle that warns us of the dangers the man presents. It’s a foolish claim.
And finally, the metaphor itself is incredibly disturbing. If you think of anyone in government as your “father,” then there is something deeply wrong. Government is supposed to serve the people, and you want it to be a father-figure that manages everything for us? No thanks.
Further, the fact that you think Donald Trump is a rapey step-father is kind of troublesome. I mean, again, I don’t know what you think it is he’s going to do, but he can barely keep track of his own ideas, and many of the ones he wants Congress has already shown it won’t do.
Plus, it’s also probably offensive to step-fathers everywhere to make them the rapey figure in the metaphor. I know tons of great step-fathers. They aren’t rapists. Why would you even take the metaphor to that extreme?
