Just One Gun? Choose Wisely!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

If I was limited to owning one firearm, it would not be a difficult decision to choose which one that would be. Don’t get me wrong, the decision would be agonizing in many ways because it would be a compromise no matter how you look at it! There is no perfect firearm for all roles and whichever one you decided upon would eventually show its shortcomings.

Thankfully, this is still America and the second amendment does not limit me to one firearm. None the less, due to current politics and the perpetual fear (and very real danger) of losing our second amendment rights through restrictive state or federal laws, many people have been purchasing their first firearm over the last five years. For some, if not many, that firearm may be the only firearm they ever intend to own so although seasoned shooters may scoff at the thought of owning only a single firearm, this is a very real predicament for many new buyers.

If your purchase is purpose driven, the choice may be mandated for you. Obviously, if you are going to buy a weapon for concealed carry, you are going to be looking at a handgun. If you are planning to start deer hunting, a high powered rifle will be in order assuming your state allows rifles for deer hunting of course.

I don’t think most of these recent buyers are purpose buyers though, I think they are arming themselves for a number of other reasons. They are concerned they may lose the ability to purchase a firearm in the future and/or they are concerned about the direction of both the economy and an ever encroaching government who appears to be bent on protecting the elite and to big to fail corporations over their own citizens.

These people are buying firearms for two reasons… for personal protection and to put meat on the table if necessary. Unfortunately, I see many of these people buying the wrong firearms for this purpose and although any weapon is better than no weapon, some are certainly better than others for fulfilling this role!

Probably the most common firearms being purchased by these people are handguns and assault rifles. Both of these are legitimate choices –if- you already have a good multipurpose weapon but they are poor choices if it is going to be your one and only firearm.

A handgun in my not so humble opinion is one step up from a good knife. Its only legitimate use (short of target practice and shooting for fun) is for concealed carry or as a secondary weapon in case your primary weapon fails or runs out of ammo. Ask an experienced law enforcement officer or other professional what a handgun is best used for and they will tell you it is for fighting your way to a long gun!

An assault rifle is a much better choice than a handgun but it still lacks some utility and has a few disadvantages. Although it is an excellent combat weapon at any reasonable range, it also has over penetration issues if you are in a home defense scenario. Additionally, it may be a fine deer rifle but taking small game at close range can be challenging since your proper sight zero is between 50 and 100 yards. You had better be able to make a headshot on a rabbit, squirrel or duck because hitting them anywhere else with an assault rifle is going to leave very little usable meat for your dinner. Another disadvantage currently is ammunition availability, it is scarce and expensive. Considering you are probably a little late in the game already if you are just now purchasing your first firearm, I would not count on stocking up on a minimum amount of ammo at a reasonable price in the near future. That expensive assault rifle is just a useless hunk of metal without ammo.

So what do I personally think is the best choice if you must own a single weapon? Hands down, it is the 12 gauge, pump action shotgun!

There are many reasons for this choice and I will try to cover as many as I can. First of all…

How many times are you going to post this?

      • Indiana_Prepper

This has never been posted, I wrote it yesterday. Feel free to drop a url where it has been posted anytime, anywhere in the past if you can. Since it was just written, I know you can’t though. Not sure why I am even talking to an anon nobody, maybe you can provide a link to some of your posts though? Uh huh, that’s what I thought.

        • Omerta

I read it a couple weeks ago, too. So, I don’t think you wrote it yesterday and you know what that makes you. I’d say this is at least the third post, liar.

        • Indiana_Prepper

Like I said, post a link if you can. I know that you can not because I wrote it yesterday. So either put up or shut up.

I apologize completely. You must think me a horses ass. I did not expect the author to read these posts. I just like to troll.

if you think people can not differentiate between different anonymous posters on here with your lame attempt to pretend to be the first anon poster.. youre a very dopey fool for sure.

for starters, the first anon has a completely different email address to yours.. [email protected]

stop trying to be clever, youre no good at it.

As long as you shoot yourself with it, you can have any gun you want!

      • stompk

I prefer a bow. Silence will be golden in a shtf scenario. Slingshots with ball bearing work well too…Up close and personal combat will be critical. A gunshot just gives your location to the govt.

        • Miss Drone-WordDropper

          i’m with you, stompk.
I prefer “Hand to Hand” combat, myself, as I know 99 out of 100 male BpH-feminized males WILL NOT DEFEND THEMSELVES. My favorite in-home weapon, for use at night in the home, is the BIG can of WASP SPRAY POISON! A long 25 ft stream of very bad chemicals right into the face (eyes, nose, ears) of your uninvited and unannounced visitor, and his friends, too!
I have several cans BIG CANS of WASP SPRAY POISON strategically placed around the house, and replace them every six months, whether ‘FIRED’ or not.

Unlike the Taliban, with its planed ‘maiming of enemy soldiers’, to send them home ‘limb-less’ for all their WAR-MONGERING brethren to see, for the next 40 years or so, I plan on leaving a trail of blinded for life, tongueless, and, “hand-less”, if they were tough to bring down. Heck, just as well POP those eardrums too!

AND, LEAVE THEM HERE IN HELL, WITH ME, TO WANDER AIMLESSLY, NOT EVEN ABLE TO ‘cleanse themselves” properly after performing the function that every immortal entity, TRAPPED IN A HUMAN BODY, must do every day it is HERE, IN HELL :!: :!: :!:

      Are you gullible or what?

You CANNOT lose A RIGHT OK????

If you do lose it, that means an ILLEGAL TYRANT has taken over or you were sleeping, or YOU DON’T LIVE IN AMERICA!!!!!!!!!

      • Indiana_Prepper

Sorry but you appear to be the gullible one fella.

A few years ago the SCOUTUS upheld the second amendment by a 5 to 4 decision, that is one vote away from losing it. There are new challenges coming soon and as long as the court makeup remains the same, we should be ok but obama has over three years left, a lot can happen in three years such as judges retiring and new ones appointed. Somehow I don’t think he will appoint a pro second amendment person… rational people are holding their breath hoping none of our guys retire soon!

You lost the right not to be compelled by the gov to buy something when the obamacare law was upheld last year.

In case you have been living under a rock for the last month, I suggest you read up on a program called Prism under which you have effectively lost your fourth amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures.

No sir, we are having our rights encroached upon and nullified daily by this administration and from what I have seen so far, nobody in congress or anywhere else is doing anything about it.

        • Anonymous

Well, it was what I was saying that means a tyrant has taken your right so that means he has NO AUTHORITY TO DO THAT.

It is you who are taken.

My right still stands and if the tyrant thinks otherwise, he will soon be hanged. Tyrants must realize they cannot take a God-given right away. That stands above and beyond any mere human law.

You, me and everyone must start searching for the lawbreakers and bring them to justice. You just don’t stand there and say, aww shucks he wrote the illegal law already, guess I might as well drop my pants and bend over and get it over with.

The meanest looking shot gun is the Remington 887. The only caveat is that just showing up with one will cause large puddles of yellow liquid to appear that you have to avoid stepping in while you look for the perpetrators. I still can’t find the leak on my weapon.

Other than that it is a fine weapon!

      • Vaevictis!!!

I would like to suggest the Benelli m4, the Saiga 12 and the AA12 are also great.

        • Indiana_Prepper

The Benelli M4 and the Saiga 12 are both very nice shotguns although they are also both pretty pricey.

The AA12 is not available to civilians in a semi-auto version and since the street sweeper is classified as a class three weapon, I doubt you will ever see the AA12 made available on the civilian market anytime soon.

      • Indiana_Prepper

I did get to handle an 877 the other day and it appears to be a very nice new offering from Remington. A lot of polymer on it though and like any brand new weapon, it will likely go through a few changes over the next year or two.

Good price on it though and it shot extremely well. Hard to go wrong with Remington, they have been making shotguns for a very long time.

        • Anonymous

The earlier models had problems but they have fixed them about a year or two ago. I have not heard about any problems since then. But no doubt it turned off a lot of people. If you buy any now you should be safe as they took those guns off the market. I just hope they don’t mess with the look if they are coming out with another version.

I hate to say it but I bought this gun strictly because of looks and the amount of tactical accouterments already built in. The same way I pick my women. Sorry….. just the way I am.

I like that new handgun that the lizard aliens have developed at their 28 story underground lab near Dulce, New Mexico. This gun can take out a city block with extreme accuracy, while leaving your house intact. The rifle this hand gun was developed from took down the twin towers.

Abraham Lincoln once said “As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned, and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working on the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless.” My fellow patriots that day has past and we know his suspicions were correct. We have lost our liberties one by one, our government is ruled by the corporations, Prisons are full of people that are no danger to society with some individuals locked up with no trial or an unfair trial because they do not have money to mount a proper defense in court and people are suffering. We are now forced to rely on the government to keep us feed, warm at night, money in our pockets, to get us jobs and the list goes on. we are disabled by the government we don’t have liberty we have a government that has false pretenses of loving liberty. our move as patriots needs to begin now we need to come together now. we need to have meetings in every town across America. every man and women needs to do there part to change our government back to for the people and by the people. we the people need to write ourselves into history for changing our government to being for the people or we the people have no future at all.

        Yeah.

But at least we can enjoy the security breach. I find it funny that Chris Kitze’s email doesn’t appear, yet everyone else’s does. Maybe he is in on it, and wants the information available to certain people.

I doubt that Mr. Kitze’s is a “Concerned Citizen”

        • @sshole

well – his email isnt supposed to be a secret – unlike the users here who expect such information to be kept confidential.. quite a breach of trust..

this link also shows he hasnt a clue what hes talking about as far as security goes..

          /alternative/2013/02/malware-attacks-hit-news-websites-foretelling-cyber-false-flag-2556084.html

and as the ceo of unsene which he tells everyone to use for security ( what the?? he cant even secure email addresses here! ) he still hasnt responded to repeated requests to offer one reason why people should trust him…

          very poor form..

    • Neil Armstrong

The only thing I worry about in a SHTF scenario these days is the verse in the Bible where it mentions that in the last days men will seek death and not find it, this is talking about those with the mark. I’m kind of a little concerned by the fact that we are on the cusp of the last days, and the majority of people we will likely be fighting against will have taken the mark, if they are unable to kill themselves we likely will not be able to do it for them at least easily. Goliath fell to a slingshot stone and head removal, this time we really may be facing Goliath 3.0, lots of them. They really have had a few thousand years to improve on the design, and they were a little more intelligent than we are to begin with, imagine what Einstein could have achieved with out growing old or dying in that amount of time.

      • @sshole

if you consider the bible anything other than a book of fiction for gullible non thinkers – then youre a moron, but youve already confirmed that all over this website with your banal moronic postings on more than enough occasions to to dispel any doubt whatsoever

Gotta get that 1:9 rifling ;)

If the conspiracies turn out to be true… UN troops in the US will be ammo on the hoof for those of us with a 1:9 LOL.

        • StormyB4

No, a 1:7. 1:9 doesn’t always stabalize the 75-77gr bullets. The 1:7 does just fine with the 55gr M193 contrary to popular myth.

12 guage, for sure. And for pete sake get a Mossberg 88 or 500 like mine. I can change from rifle stock to pistol grip- 18 inch w/muzzle break for home defence shooting LEO prefered double 00 to rifled 24 inch w/ scope and vented barrle sending out one ounce – 410 grain slugs two miles to 28 inch goose-gun firing size 5 shot -in seconds. The best part is reloading. -Being able to make your own slugs etc. buy caps – powder – hulls – wads w/ no shortage at all. I’v even used black powder just to see if I could. Worked great.

I’m an archery nut too, but when they have heat sencing night equipment/scopes, one shot may be all you get- if even. And range -200 feet with luck.
