“Hi I’m Timothy Riley and this is my video review of the [Suntactics] power outage kit, now first lets go through what comes with the kit; you get the solar charger itself, you also get a rechargeable battery, and a 10-LED light. Now this is built as a power outage kit and I think it’s perfect for that, it allows you to charge up cell phones, iPads other devices and also has this extremely bright light you’d be surprised how bright that is. I can see a lot of uses for it besides that, I’m what people refer to as an extreme birder or birdwatcher, I go into jungle areas I go into very remote areas and very often we don’t have any electricity for days and this is something I can use to recharge my cell phone my GPS my iPad so I can make notes, there’s a lot of purposes for it. But first lets go through each specific item.

First you have a solar panel which can be plugged in directly to you phone your iPad whatever you have now I prefer to use the battery charger which ill show you in a minute but this is charging my cell phone right now so it should be in bright sunlight, I prefer to use the battery charger because I don’t necessarily want my phone or my iPad out in the environment exposed, but the battery charger will take the charge and you can charge from there. But this is a really nice unit it’s very compact it comes with a carrying case and it works, it charges my phone in about 2 hours.

Here I have a solar panel hooked up to the 6000mAh battery charger and will charge this up and it’ll charge my cell phone about twice my iPad a little bit more than once, and it takes depending on how depleted the battery charger is about 4-5 hours is what I found before it charges it up completely, and it does have an LED indicator on it.

Now there’s just so many uses for this, I can’t see being a hunter, an outdoorsman someone who climbs rocks or mountains or who hikes not wanting this kit. I mean it’s just so necessary if you’re some place and you don’t have any way to access power, so I think it’s just a wonderful kit. The LED light which ill show you in a minute is very helpful too, I have a lot of flashlights but what if your batteries run out? If you’re in a situation where you’ve been without power for a long time, you can always use this because you can charge it in the daytime or use it at night.

Now here I am in bright daylight, full sun and I can still see the led lights! it’s really surprising how bright it is, now you can hook this up right to the battery charger and power it that way so at night you need to look at a map or want to read, this will last a long time, I think they listed about 24 hours it’ll run off of the battery charger.

Anyway I think this is a great kit it’s certainly worth the money if you’re in a place that has a lot of power outages, we’ve had a really tough winter in this country through 2013-2014 I know a lot of people would of wished that they had this, this should be something you should consider, but if you’re an outdoorsman if you hunt, hike and all those other things, this is something I would certainly say should be in your backpack.
