Spider Holes For Concealment

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

If you were being pursued by an aggressor or group of villains, would you be able to escape them? I’ll bet you could if you had already dug some fox holes for hiding.

Spider holes for Concealment

Imagine this scenario. You live on the edge of town. Late at night the concentration camp vans roll into your neighborhood. They are rounding up everyone. You’ll flee out the back door and into the wood behind your home. Very original idea. You are now doing the exact same action as everyone else in your neighborhood. Very predictable behavior. The “bad” guys have already thought about this, and have plans to cut you off and round you all up. Now think about this alternate scenario. You live on the edge of town. Late at night the concentration camp vans roll into your neighborhood. They are rounding up everyone. You’ll flee out the back door and into the wood behind your home. Very original idea. You are now doing the exact same action as everyone else in your neighborhood, except, you pop a commercial smoke grenade to cover your retreat and….. You came out to the woods (or country side) previously, with a folding shovel (or the Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel) in your backpack, and dug some nice sized foxholes for hiding. You made sure they were under fallen trees or in dense thickets. After digging those holes, you made some “lids” of plywood or woven vegetation with plants and dirt covering the lids you can open or close the holes, to hide items… or hide yourself. With the lids in place the hole disappear and are invisible to the naked eye. This is why we chose to dig our fox holes under fallen trees or in dense thickets, so people won’t accidentally stumble into them, discovering your secret hiding place or getting injured. wikipedia image This means that when everyone in your neighborhood is fleeing blindly into the forest (or country side), you make sure to slide, unobserved into your spider hole, pulling the lid over you. Now you just have to wait. As long as they don’t have search dogs, you might just make it. Military Grade Field Testing I know you’re wondering “Would this really work?”. I knew you’d ask that, so I put this through the most rigorous testing process, you can imagine. I tested this while playing Hide and Seek with my children. Yes, they are only 8, 6 and almost 4, but they are tenacious hunters when it comes to hiding an seeking. You can tell they are serious hunters and finders by their professional looking hats! They thought I vanished from the face of the earth. No one expects a human to disappear into a hole, then cover it with a lid of local foliage. It worked like a champ. See the difference that using a spider holes for concealment, and a bit of preparation, can make? If digging a spider hole isn’t practical, how about using a ghilli blanket to disappear into your surroundings? Commercial Smoke Grenade info (these are the ones I really like):

Seems like the smoke bomb would be counter-productive, and the dog thing- why wouldn’t they bring them if they expected everybody to run into the woods? One other thought- tall trees could provide an alternative hideout, if you live where they do. Here in AZ, the washes are full of nooks and crannies that can be adapted for spider holes, if you don’t mind sharing them with snakes, scorpions, and oh yeah – SPIDERS.

why would you dig those holes? will you be sitting in them for 8 hours a day? what happens when it rained. your hole is just a mudbath if it hasn’t collapsed
