PracticeFusion, DrFirst and Emdeon ranked as Top Electronic Prescribing Vendors Among Satisfied Clients, Black Book 2013 Survey

Over fifteen thousand e-Prescribing users identified an elite group of high satisfaction vendors for both standalone systems and EHR-based modules across eighteen probing key performance indicators from a field of five hundred qualified healthcare software firms. As medical providers still scramble to select and implement systems to avoid financial penalties, experienced users identify the firms that are delivering on implementation success, meaningful use achievement, clinical interoperability, quality outcomes, support and crucial stimulus fund requirements.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 03, 2012

Black Book Rankings, well known internationally for accurate, impartial customer satisfaction surveys in the services and software industries, conducted a sweeping four month user poll to determine the highest ranked Electronic Prescribing software products and systems. As part of a special research focus on e-Health technology, Black Book’s 2013 State of the e-Prescribing Industry report also highlights the most recent trends.

From the aggregated results, Black Book estimates 342,000 current e-prescribing users nationally. Nearly 61% of all eligible providers and clinicians now utilize e-Prescribing currently to some degree. “The e-Prescribing marketplace is becoming crowded, and overall usability, clinical interoperability and achievement of meaningful use standards are the main factors that will keep vendors competitive with innovations and efficiencies,” reports Black Book’s managing partner Doug Brown.

The survey collected data on both standalone e-Prescribing systems and EMR/EHR based e-Prescribing modules, as well as Stage 1 and State 2 meaningful use criteria achievement and innovative clinical interoperability solutions.

Additionally, Black Book survey participants revealed insights into the encouraging benefits of the electronic prescribing initiative:

87% of e-prescribing providers surveyed estimated in states with controlled substance and general e-Rx capabilities that “doctor shopping”, prescription fraud and tampering, and overdoses will greatly decrease as a practice impacting issues after this year.

84% of e-prescribing providers surveyed acknowledge e-Rx as having a strong effect on therapeutic decision making, compared to 13% reported some effect and 3% reporting no effect.

98% of e-prescribing providers surveyed insist that e-Rx will not replace clinical judgment but 92% believe e-Rx facilitates better delivery of care.

With a large field of electronic prescribing systems in the marketplace, the majority of current system users are not at ease with vendor support and assistance as penalties loom.

60% of e-prescribing providers surveyed feel they may be still in a phase of EHR, e-Rx and Health Information Exchange vendor flux as vendors prove their capability to achieve meaningful use criteria for system users. 71% of providers foresee the need for a new vendor selection process by the end of Q3 2013 based on less than satisfactory anticipated MU outcomes.

Black Book’s annual e-Rx report also reviews growth rates, pending penalties for non-users, roles of pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers in e-Prescribing, legislation, controlled substances and the initiatives to save costs to the entire healthcare system.

Practice Fusion captured the 2013 top honors in customer experience and satisfaction among EHR-EMR based e-Prescribing module users. Other top e-Prescribing performers for best client experience include: CureMD, DrFirst Rcopia, e-MDs, Pulse EHR, Waiting Room Solutions, Cerner, Vitera, Aprima, SRS Soft, Sequel, DigiDMS, Quest MedPlus Care 360, McKesson, athenahealth, and MTSC.

DrFirst was ranked the #1 vendor for standalone electronic prescribing systems. Other top standalone e-Prescribing performers for satisfaction include: DoseSpot, RxNT, H2H, Daw Systems Scripture, Kryptiq, Emdeon, MD Toolbox and NewCrop. The highest client experience rating for independent electronic health record – standalone electronic prescribing partnerships was awarded by the users of Greenway Medical Technologies in collaboration with DrFirst. Other top e-Prescribing performers for satisfaction and meaningful use implementation include the ChartLogic and DrFirst and LSS Data and DrFirst product partnerships.

Meaningful use achievement was scored by Practice Fusion with 98,5% of clients anticipated or already expecting Stage 1 MU and 96% expecting Stage 2 . Other top e-Prescribing performers for satisfaction and meaningful use implementation include: athenahealth, Vitera, SRS Soft, Waiting Room Solutions, Cerner, SOAPware, Allscripts and Epic Systems.

Highest interoperability honors were awarded to Emdeon for outstanding developments in clinical exchange solutions. HealthFusion, CureMD, Pulse, AmazingCharts, RxNT, OmniMD, and California Medical Systems also achieved top interoperability scores by current users.

“As physicians face looming penalties for not demonstrating evidence of electronic prescribing compliance with program criteria, many current users report predicted vendor shifts due to either system inadequacies, lack of vendor support or timely implementations,” said Brown. “Top ranked vendors can expect a movement of 2013 new client acquisition as medical practices reach their breaking point with first choice software suppliers who have overpromised and under delivered on e-Rx.”

Black Book Rankings polled the vendor satisfaction of over 24,000 current e-Rx users, healthcare records professionals, physician practice administrators, and hospital information technology managers. Additionally, 57,000 study participants that have not yet fully implemented or use electronic health records or e-Prescribing provided insight on budgeting, adoption plans, factors driving EHR decisions and vendor awareness from July to November this year.

Black Book Rankings provides electronic health record, health information exchange, mobile Health, clinical decision support, and electronic prescribing users, media, investors, analysts, quality minded vendors, and prospective software system buyers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and other interested sectors of the clinical technology industry with comprehensive assessment data on the industry’s top respected and competitively performing technology vendors. Black Book Rankings employs in depth key performance indicators targeted at ensuring high product and service performance through comparing vendors from the customer experience.
