CALGARY, (MMD Newswire) October 31, 2013 — Landmark Cinemas Canada confirmed today they have proceeded with the original acquisition and transition of 20 Empire Theatres, as well as the additional acquisition and transition of two Empire Theatres in Ontario (Whitby and Kanata) that were previously listed in the original Cineplex Cinemas purchase. The total acquisition of the 22 Empire Theatres provides Landmark Cinemas with an additional 227 screens in Western Canada and Ontario.

Neil Campbell, COO and Partner of Landmark Cinemas Canada stated, “Receiving the No Action Letter (“NAL”) from the Commissioner of Competition has now enabled our company the opportunity to extend our special movie going experience to guests in communities we have wanted to be part of for many years.”

Along with the 22-theatre acquisition, Landmark Cinemas Canada has also agreed to take on a management contract for the Empire Theatres Ottawa 7 in downtown Ottawa.

“Due to the many letters, emails and phone calls we have received, we know many guests in Ottawa will be happy to hear that we will run Empire Theatres Ottawa 7 until December 31, 2013. By this time we hope to conclude on how to move forward with this important community theatre.”

The new combined geographic footprint for Landmark Cinemas Canada, which now includes a total of 54 theatres with 359 screens, featuring five IMAX ®, one Xtreme and three Extra branded theatres throughout Western Canada, Ontario and the Yukon Territory, makes Landmark Cinemas the second largest theatre chain in Canada and the tenth largest in North America; based on statistics from the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO).

Campbell concludes, “My partners and I agree this is a great Canadian business story. This deal worked out because so many people believed in it. We are grateful for all the support we have received throughout this negotiation to make our dream a reality.”

The Empire Theatres involved in the Landmark Cinema’s acquisition were closed today in preparation for the transition to the new ownership. Landmark Cinemas will open their 23 acquired theatres tomorrow, Thursday, October 31, 2013 for evening shows and then to full operational hours effective November 1, 2013.

“Not only did we acquire great theatres from this acquisition, we also acquired some amazing talent.” says Campbell. “We want to welcome to our Landmark Cinemas team, Rob Wales as Senior Director, Filmed Entertainment and this year’s Canadian Picture Pioneer of the Year; Phillip May, Director, Filmed Entertainment; Daron Wong, Vice President, Information Technology; Ryan Dion, Salvatore Ruggiero and Brooks LeBouef, Directors of Theatre Operations for Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, parts of British Columbia, and the Yukon Territory; Jay Stewart and Brenda Edwards, Corporate Sales; James Mason, Director, Food Services; Chris Goyette, Director, Technical Services as well as thousands of enthusiastic Cast Members; theatre level management Team Members and General managers. We are also very proud to announce that Alan Lui brings his studio experience to Landmark Cinemas as our new Director of Distributor Relations.”

Campbell continues to say, “along with acquiring key talent, we would like to announce changes in management at Landmark Cinemas Canada head office. Kevin Norman is now Vice President, Filmed Entertainment; Debbie Payne has been promoted to Director, Filmed Entertainment; Nathan Cooney is now Vice President of Operations; Jeff Maughan and Lindsay Thorburn have both been promoted to Director of Theatre Operations for Alberta and British Columbia.
