Holocaust Survivor And EX-NFL Player Team Up To Bring “Paradise” Script To Screen

Inspired by real events, “PARADISE” takes its name from an island off the coast of South Carolina whose land has been deeded to former slaves after the Civil War.

Leon Prochnik, the creator of “PARADISE” is a veteran screenwriter who has penned a number of award-winning films – among them Sidney Lumet’s “CHILD’S PLAY” that won Prochnik the Best Screenplay Award at the Cork Film Festival and “FOUR EYES & SIX GUNS” which was voted Best Western Of The Year by the Los Angeles Times.

The screenplay tells the story of Hank Cooper, a white drifter who ends up siding with Paradise’s black farmers against a group of white “land developers,” who are getting ready to “re-claim” the island by force.

Leon is a Holocaust Survivor, whose Polish-Jewish family narrowly escaped death at the hands of the Nazis during World War II.

Prochnik describes the catalyst to write “PARADISE” as “a member of one discriminated-against people finding common cause with another.”

Leon got a call from Brandon Miree, the head of Moviefield Entertainment, who was checking to see if the movie rights to “PARADISE” were available.

“I’d heard it was a powerful work,” says Miree. “When I read it, I thought, “Wow, this is a story that needs to be brought to life!”

Miree, who became a movie producer after a neck injury forced him to retire from the Green Bay Packers, says he has never felt so ready to run with a script.

“I’m ready to put it all on the line to make sure it has the best chance of being viewed by millions around the world,” Miree exclaimed.
