J.M. Smucker Company’s Most Popular Brands Found to Contain Insufficient Levels of Thiamine

VALLEY STREAM, NY — Central Veterinary Associates (CVA) is notifying all local pet owners of the recent voluntary recall from J.M. Smucker Company. The well-known brand recently announced that its 9Lives, EverPet and Special Kitty cat food brands were found to contain low-levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1), which can lead to thiamine deficiency in felines. This is of concern for cat owners as a low thiamine level can have a significant health impact over time and can cause vomiting, salivation and decreased appetite. Extreme cases are known to have caused neurological problems.
